Question Judgement day

Why do they say that you can be forgiven of your sins through reconcilitation and still have a judgement day? If He will forgive all your sins, why should we be judged at the Pearly Gates? For that matter, why would Purgatory or Hell exsist?

There are two types of death, Physical, which is over come by the resurrection, and everyone will be resurrected. and Spiritual death. Only those who are righteous, baptised and repentant get forgiveness from spiritual death/sins. There is time between death and judgement that everyone will be able to choose between the right way and their way. there is more than 'heaven' and 'hell', just like there are more than 'good' or 'bad' people.

Heavenly Father will judge us based on our intents and desires to do good things for other people and to be righteous, and He understands that we are not perfect. Yet.

So god will punish and torture everyone that does not live up to these standards? I would have thought that a supreme being would be above taking action against certain people that was designed to make them suffer. Isn't one of the bible's core messages about forgiveness and compassion? So god expects people to be compassionate and forgive others of their sins against them but in return he will torture those that do not respect him?
Wow, what a hippocrate.

You have an appropriate name

if you had read my thread properly you will see that WE choose whether we are good or bad, and God does not punish or reward us, we punish and reward ourselves based on our actions and consequences to those actions.

ditto bunzy – God doesn't have to punish us, we punish ourselves, or rather, we choose our punishment. Obviously if you're busting butt to keep that line of communication, that relationship with God open (assuming you are a believer), you're going to be living out your faith and doing those things that help bring others to God. Same thing if you're actively pursuing the other route by being morally and spiritually bad, which gets you a one-way ticket to hell ...

I'm curious, button – do you share these opinions because you truly hold them, or are just wanting to stir the pot because you feel it *needs* to be stirred?

Ok I admit, I'm guilty of trying to push for a response from people that take the bible as 100% literal truth.
But bunnzy, I wasn't replying to your thread. My post was in response to the thread starter. And It's nice to see that you don't have such a black and white view of heaven and hell.

But one other thing bunnzy....

by my understanding of the word righteous, you would not be committing any sins, so what you said here is contradictory.
I find it remarkable and quite sad that modern christianity is so focused on "sinning" and "repenting", which is probably one of the reasons why the numbers of people that identify themselves as christians is declining in the world.

Judgement day has already come and gone. Nero was "the beast," signified by Greek historians as 666.

Yes, really.
