I am 17 yr old male who finds it difficult to check out girls or even make eye contact with girls. The problem started in secondary school when i was checking a girl out and I overheard her friend tell her that I was checking her out. I felt embarrassed and ashamed and became fearful of checking out girls cause I worried they would know and I would look like an idiot for not talking to them. I'm currently in college, but I still suffer this feeling that if I check a girl or make eye contact out she'll know and wonder why I haven't talked to her. Any advice for getting over it? Cheers.

Ant;

Relax, dude. You're reading way too much into this than you need to. I mean, if you're ogling some chick, drooling all over the floor and saying to your buddies, "Hey, check the rack out on that one!" that's one thing. If it's a casual glance, then that's something else entirely.

Next time you feel like making eye contact with some girl, remember to smile. A simple, sincere smile is most often returned in kind. And if she doesn't smile back, or glares at you, then you probably don't want anything to do with her anyway.

So chill. You're going to be fine.

Dude you are checkin a chick out not a dude. chicks love it. smile thats a good advice, don't strear at anybody thats not right, don't be stearing at anyone's boobies. but a make nice eye contact smile if you get a smile back say something, you can say anything good like "nice earings" and brake that ice. and then talk on.
remember chicks are chicks they are not gonna come and ask you out. you gotta do it.

I liked it when guys checked me out when I was your age, you shouldn't feel embarrased, just smile at them. When one of my "girl" friends use to say he's checking you out, I alway felt flattered so you shouldn't feel embarrased.

Once I was talking a walk with a friend of mine and she "reprimanded" me for turning my head down when people walked by. Obviously I was lowering my head and gazed downward without even noticing it anymore, it just became a habit. I was told to hold myself up and look people in the eyes...

I'm a woman, I'm much older than you and I'm still nervous as hell, I also still very embarrassed when I catch someone looking at me, I find it so intimate. I've been working on this though and it's cute when you smile and look at people realize they are looking and smiling at you, too. (Surprise, surprise, it also makes me notice the cute guys who are looking at me much better now. ). It's still hard and sometimes I forget it, but try to push your comfort zone a little bit every day till you get used to looking at people without feeling embarrassed. Once you have done it very often, you will get used to do it.

You should be reading some of the books on how to win with women. Most of the material is geared toward approaching women and it can be educational and motivational.
