Why do people like going to Bars and Clubs? In fact, for people who are looking to meet other people, bars and clubs seem to me to be one of the worst places to go. The people in bars and clubs are probably going and consuming alot of alcohol (not necessarily a good habit), and perhaps other no so legal drugs. They are not showing any drive, motivation or passion for anything. There are alot of drunk guys trying to hit on women. It is normally loud and difficult to carry on a conversation. I can understand it if you are going just to see people, hear loud music, and dance; but to meet other potential soulmates-no.

What you've stated here has some merit. Just the same, especially in smaller communities, I find that it is specifically these places that have the highest proportion of normal, single individuals as well.
I think we'd be overly critical to suggest that there are far greater numbers of "shady" characters in these places than in "general" locations. Yes, there's no question that there are some at bars and clubs in much the same way as there are some that are out at coffee shops, etc.
There are certainly those people who are drunkards, drug abusers, etc., but there are also great people with decent jobs and/or families there as well.
And, hey... let's face it ...
Where else are there going to be greater numbers of available people, dressed and preened to their best for the visit, often for the sole purpose of attracting the opposite sex?
I can agree 100% though, that once one has attracted the girl/guy of his/her dreams, the club is perhaps not the best venue to try and continue to get to know that person. The noise, confusion, and overall milleu of these places make interpersonal communication difficult, if not impossible. Nonetheless, as far as the meeting process goes, I feel that these are often the places where it all starts.

Couldn't disagree with you more. According to the founders of the internet it was conceived onto a bar napkin at a bar. Many very successful people go to a bars to wind down after a hard days work....does this mean they lack drive or motivation. I met my wife at a bar.... I am very successful commercial real estate man and her a lawyer, did the fact that we met a bar discount us or our relationship some way?
Nothing wrong with not liking the bar scene but don't discount people that go there as having no drive or motivation. There are always exceptions to the rule but categorizing any group of people is irresponsible and shallow.

Just because it's not your scene doesn't mean it's a waste of time. I used to think like you, but I've changed for the better, especially after a drink or two. Not that I drink often, but still...

Bars are what you make of them and if the place is not your style then you just won`t connect with people there. Each place is different in ways like age, social status, and lifestyle. The important thing is to recognize where you fit in. It would be of little value to me now past 50 to hang out at a bar where there are only college students.
Just as you posted that everyone goes to a bar to meet people....everyone knows that other people go to bars to meet people if i know that people in a bar are opening to meet me then i have a better chance of meeting someone.
P.S. A couple of drinks loosen things up
P.P.S. I don't know how to meet people so I don't know what the heck I'm talking about...take it with a grain of salt

Thats because American society tells us what to wear, what to think, what to say, what to do and how to act. I get a kick out of people who think they are being an 'individual' by getting a tatoo or something as if society hasn't influenced them to do so at all. I feel like they are saying: "I want to get a tatoo to be 'different', and be just like everybody else who also has them." . I guess I'm on a tangent, back to reality, the point is that society tells us that it is where to meet people and being a little intoxicated with a large selection of people to try to meet and talk to works for some people.

Man, all this time I was going to karaoke bars I thought it was because I like to sing, have a few drinks, and meet cute girls. I never knew until now that it was because I have no imagination or motivation and it is what society tells me to do. Sneaky society.
Luckily there are so many enlightened people on this board to help us poor, lost lemmings out.

Techinically we weren't just hanging out at a bar. She was at a bachelorette party and myself a bachelor party. But our groups wound up at the same bar! We hit it off and the rest is history!
