wanting to exercise really bad!!! but cant?

k here's the story....i'm of decent weight, i'm skinny. I weigh between14-150lbs and i'm 21 yrs old. But the thing is, i'm out of shape. I really want to exercise...something that will work my entire body. I could easily do situps here at home, but that just works the abs doesnt it? i mean YEA i def need to work on them, but i want to work everything. I want a treadmill but we cant afford one right now. I dont wanna run outside b/c I cant stand the fact of someone watching me exercise, unless its in a gym *and i cant afford to go to a gym*. I tend to get unwanted attention being outside and running. So is there anything I can do IN my home? Or is anyone looking to sell their treadmill for relatively cheap or know of a gym i can join thats affordable?? lol sorry i'm desperate to get my butt back into shape

You can buy some dumb bells at a sporting goods store ( like Dicks) that are not expensive and work out your body at home. You can do many exercises with dumb bells. Then do your sit-ups, push-ups and things that don't require weights. You could invest in a bicycle and ride and you shouldn't get the unwanted attention from running or jogging.

Peace...

thats a good idea...how much do a set of dumb bells usually run, do you know? or does it just depend on the weight of 'em?

I think they charge by the weight. I'm not sure for all stores so you would just have to check and see.

I love doing DVD or video workouts. "The Firm" (cardio/weights) and Cathe Friedrich (Cathe.com, for cardio and weights), and Gaiam (yoga) are my favorite lines of workout tapes, but you could definitely find any tape that fit with what you were interested in. I do my workouts in my bedroom. I have about a 4' x 9' space that gives me enough room to do most workouts.

Both the Firm and Cathe workouts are about 45 to 60 minutes long and they burn calories and build muscle incredibly well. However, because many of the tapes emphasize weights, as well as cardio, you wouldn't want to do the weight workouts 2 days in a row--or at least not workouts that worked the same muscle groups two days in a row--since muscles require at least 48 hours rest between strength training sessions.

To get in shape you need to do something other than just sit ups/lifting weights, etc ... you need to do some cardio girl! I know how obnoxious it is to get "unwanted attention" working out outside, but it really probably is the best way for you to burn some calories and get in shape! What if you got up really early (when its still dark out - before work/school/whatever?) or late ... the roads are more quiet then and people can't see you! Or go to a high school track where there would only be a limited number of people around and they probably wouldn't be the kind to hassle you while you run!

Lifting is good .... and exercises like pilates are excellent! But cardio is essential!!

Call up a friend or relative and set a time of day to meet and go walking a few times a week, early in the morning, or after dark. It goes alot faster and is more fun when u have someone to talk to.

I like the DVD or video idea as well. Some of them incorporate small weights into their programs.

well guys, i just went out and bought 2 8lb dumb bells and an exercise ball. The ball is gonna take some practice b/c i'm having a hard time balancing myself on it right now lol but it came w/ a manual thing that shows like 20 different exercises you can do on it *and i'm doin all my exercises in my bedroom as well since I have a tv and stereo in there *. But I still really really wanna run for some reason lol They had a nice selection of treadmills. Have any of you ever used the ball? And if so, does the balancing thing get easier? i mean i know this is my first day and all...

Check out treadmills / ellipticals / steppers etc. on ebay, you'll get good deals if you search a bit.

You do need to do a full cardio workout if you want to get your muscles back into shape - just weights / dumbbells / excercise ball won't do. IMO, that's kinda taking the easy way out You need to do something that keeps your heart-rate moderately high for at least 20 minutes.

One more thing - since you're doing this at home, invest in some good music CDs you can listen to, something to get you into rhythm. Listening to your own labored breathing doesn't work, at least for me!

How tall are you? I am twenty-three, 5'5", 135 pounds. I am at a healthy weight, but I am working hard to burn off little fat deposits (Cosmetic fat).

Vary your exercise routine. Do ab work on certain days, shoulders and back on another, chest and arms, legs on another. Try to mix things up. Set up a schedule you can stick to and follow it.

You don't need a treadmill to exercise. There are these things outside called side walks and roads, and you can walk, run, or jog on them. A large bonus is that they are free.

I have been walking for half an hour every day for the past two weeks. I am not yet seeing results in the mirror, but I notice that my pants are fitting much better, even with my belt on the tightest setting. I have lost five pounds. I am also eating healthy and watching my portions.

I don't care if people see me while I am jogging, or while I am walking; I am doing something healthy for myself. If someone has a problem with me bettering myself, then that person is odd to me, my friend.

Again, you do not need a treadmill. Even in the winter, you can jump rope in your house, or jog in place, or dance around like a mad person to get your cardio workout for the day.

Weights are not too expensive. If you have room for a weight bench, go ahead and buy one; they are not too expensive, and all you really need are the basics. Invest in some weights for bench equipment, and some free weights. Stick to a schedule, do your exercises properly, and you will notice results if you stick with it for a few months.

If, for some reason, you cannot get rid of an annoying piece of fat, keep it in mind that you are living a healthier lifestyle, and you are going to feel great anyway. You might feel so good when you exercise again, that you won't notice the flab you've been trying to get rid of for one year.

If you are serious about wanting to get into better shape, you are going to have to work on being shy in pubilc. Go walking at a vigorous pace for half an hour or so, or go jogging, or running. You shouldn't care if other people see you accomplishing something.
