In Search Of...Having a hard time forming friendships or finding companions, lovers, or associates? Is someone pursuing an unwelcome relationship with you? Talk about your experiences here.
So, I decided to bite the bullet and throw a few profiles on some sites. Yahoo, and americansingles. I went through every photo I have of myself, all 10 or so of them , and they all suck. I hate having my picture taken, and it also seems like most of them were taken on days when I forgot to shave. I'm not looking at the camera, or it's an old photo and I'm 50lbs heavier than I am now..
So, I think I'm going to have to try and take some decent photo's tomorrow with my mom's digital. She wanted to take some today, but I was already wearing my lame Security uniform, and I look pretty dorky in it.
What kind of pictures should I take? Other than a head shot, and maybe one that show's the rest of me, I'm lost.
Sit with the dog? outside? inside? smile? make a face? take my shirt off and try to flex my beer belly?
thanks,
BigB

The most important thing is to smile and look natural. I personally am turned off by the shirtless pics, but I am not into the "macho" type of guy. Always like a nice looking, natural smile, and the rest (inside, outside, with dog, etc) isn't so important.
Do as many different ones as you can. Fun, happy, silly, laughing and stuff like that. One will just jump out at you and that's the one you go with. Try not to feel nervous. Don't THINK about it too much while you're having your picture taken. Just relax and go with the flow.
You're a good guy and I'm sure some woman will snatch you up in no time!
Ok, I was thinking outside as the light usually looks better. There's a nice green bush in the front yard at my moms that might make a good background.
My mom loves to take pictures of me with the dog, and I've got some ok ones, but I always seem to be lounging on the couch playing video games so I'm never looking at the camera, or my shirts riding up or something.
I've got a few random ones from a camping trip that looks decent, but don't show my face all that great, maybe I'll throw them in on the sites that allow a few extra pics.
My mom has NO IDEA why's she taking these pics, I just mentioned that we don't seem to have any decent photo's of me, she started fighting with me about how I always avoid that camera, so I said "all right I'll let you take some" sneaky, sneaky...
Go to a professional photographer! I know it costs money but it pays out. Statistics show that people with professional pics get more attention. And find some photographer who loves his job and has an eye for it. Don't take a passport kinda pic. Smile and look natural.
Put a few pics on your profile. Good luck and gives us the scoop, boy!
Only use professional pictures if you're NOT in LA/OC, otherwise you're going to look like a starving actor/model who's consumed by their appearance. I've done the online dating thing, and I honestly have skipped over the professional pictures, especially if they look like headshots, because those guys tend to be more self-absorbed and into physical beauty...at least in this part of the country (I am sure it's different in other places!).
Just make your pictures reflect your personality - show yourself laughing, with friends, with family, with your pet, having a good time, smiling, etc.
professional pics huh? I don't think I've ever had a professional picture taken other than the ones they do at school for yearbook.
I'd be afraid they would make me look desperate or too into my appearance or something... I also wouldn't want to make myself look tooo good (if that's possible) and then disappoint..
I'll let my mom take a few, and see how they turn out.
I've been browsing some profiles tonight, and wow, some people have really bad pictures. It's like they went: "hmm.. I think I stick my webcam up under my nose in the dark, that'll look great"
RP, you guys will definitely get the scoop, assuming there is any scoop.
what do you guys think of what I put in my profile? I suck at writing this kinda stuff.
"I'm kinda shy at first, but once I warm up I become more outgoing. I'm a funny, easy going, friendly, honest, affectionate guy, who enjoys having a good time. I'm a vegetarian. I love camping, animals (especially dogs), weird movies, video games, the beach, kayaking, and spending time with my family and friends. I'm told my best features are my blue eyes, and my big shoulders. I’m big and strong on the outside, but soft and warm on the inside (I still cry at sad movies).
I work as a Security Officer in Petaluma, CA. I'm planning to go into Law Enforcement.
I'm shy around girls, and I work evenings/weekends so I though this might be a good way to meet new people.
I'm looking for a cute, smart, funny, girl who interested in a possible long term relationship. Someone who likes to have a good time, likes to sit at home and talk, snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie, go for a walk on the beach, or go out to a party. I believe in being friends first. "
if that's not internet courage, I don't know what is....

I like it - you sound like a nice, warm guy. Props, too, to 'fessing up to the job and the ambitions. Truth is always best
thanks, I almost didn't put in the job part, I know some people are going to go "ewww, rent-a-cop, wannabe cop"
but then I figured, I'm cool with my crappy job, I like it way more than my old job that paid twice as much, and if a girl can't see past that I probably don't want to date her. I'm a slacker and I'm not afraid to admit it.
plus I know that dating a cop comes with challenges, (long hours, working holiday, danger, etc.) and that some girls aren't into that.
you seem like a cool guy to me and Im a dude! your avatar is kinda cool, shows you have a cheeky side to you, if that is you and your descripton sounds great too! Maybe get your mom to take another pic similar to you avi?
and you are right, if a chic rejects you because of your job, then you dont want her anyway man, hey at least you have a job right and whats wrong with what you do anyhow?
