Go to a doctor. You need to be sure it's a yeast infection and get properly treated. These things can travel up the fallopian tubes and cause big trouble if not treated correctly.

I have to agree with Moi this time. Since you haven't had a yeast infection before and you're unfamiliar with the symptoms it would be best if you visited the doctor to ensure that it is a yeast infection. Once you become familiar with a yeast infection there are over the counter applications that can help clear them up. Also, eating yogurt with active cultures will assist in keeping yeast infections away.

Yeast infections are actually a kind of fungus - it's normal to have some yeast in your system but usually it is in balance - i.e., no infection. You can get it from taking antibiotics, birth control, being pregnant, diabetes - there are a lot of different causes having to do with hormones, how well your body handles your blood sugar, how acidic your system is, how balanced the bacteria in your system is...

I agree with the other ladies, there are other vaginal infections that are not yeast infections and different medications treat them. Go to the Doctor, get diagnosed and s/he'll let you know whether you can take over the counter meds or s/he'll prescribe something. You don't want to 'try' something for yeast infections if you really have something else because over time it can make the yeast more resistant to treatment. You also don't want to compromise your reproductive system if you plan on ever having children.

Yogurt is good, also try to eliminate refined sugar from your diet for awhile (too much blood sugar makes for a good breeding ground for yeast). Wear cotton undies, no tight jeans, no douches or any other foreign stuff like feminine sprays, etc. Avoid tampons until it's cleared up.

miranda - for things like this you should see a gynocologist, not your regular doctor unless you feel comfortable with that, especially if you feel embarassed. A female gynocologist will not make you feel embarassed. They see patients with these situations on a daily basis. They can also do a pap smear and check for anything else you might have.

I get yeast infections frequently. I was again diagnosed last month and took a prescription that was similar to Monistat. It seems like it never goes away longer than a month. This weekend when I was with my boyfriend it came back and was very embarassing - I had a thick white discharge all over him and myself - like cottage cheese.

I wonder if he gives me the infection because when we don't have sex for a few weeks it seems to go away then when we do, it always comes back. I don't know what to do about it so I can live in peace withouot fighting this thing all the time.

It makes me wonder if my boyfriend is cheating on me and brings me the yeast infection maybe from another girl? I cannot see why I keep getting it and when I go to the doctor, it is always diagnosed as yeast infection nothing else. I eat yogurt but anything sugary and boom, it will trigger it so I don't even use sugar in my coffee anymore. Does anyone know what other foods in particular can trigger it so I can be careful about those too? I can't take it anymore.

Antibiotics always trigger yeast infections for me (which should make Thursday's surgery especially fun to recover from), but basically what you want to do is go see a gyno, and in the meantime, eat yogurt with live cultures and wear non-restricting, 100% cotton undies (which is good advice anyway) until you're back up to par.

Eat yogurt (if you can stand it) to balance out the yeast in your bod. Always cotton underoos, no tight pants. Dry COMPLETELY after showering. Antibiotics do reek havok on the nether regions for females.
