I have been with my boyfriend for about a year n 1/2 now..We are both in high school. He will be going to college this fall, about an hour n 15mins from here {remaining in state). I know the chances of things lasting are very slim, but he is convinced we can make it work. Does anyone know of any relationships that made it though someone going to college? (I will be going to college a year later, I'm a junior right now). Also, any tips on how to make it work? I trust him completely, just not the "college girls" (I don't mean to stereotype...I've just heard things from college friends). We are both very mature for our ages, 17 and 19. (I like to think.) Neither of us drink, nor do we plan to get too crazy in college. And we have talked about this before, and I plan to have a long conversation with him before he leaves this fall. I guess I'm looking for any advice and positive stories? Thanks!

My brother and his wife began dating as seniors in high school, when they fell completely in love with each other. (It was the cutest thing!) Eight years later, at the age of 25, they got married. They have now been married almost 2 years.

I know they did have some rough spots when they were in college, about 5 hours away from each other. I think at one point she began seeing other people and he was devastated. But they got back together and made it through the college years. They even spent a year apart when they got out of college just because of their jobs, and then they lived together again for maybe a year and a half before he proposed.

So the road wasn't completely smooth, but yes they continued their relationship through college and everything is turning out well for them.

It sounds like you and your boyf are really mature, and really share a nice commitment. Sounds like the LDR can work for the two of you.

Thank you for an ecouraging story! I was afraid I would only get comments such as "no one makes it through college." I have a feeling that if we can work through the 1 year he is at college while I'm in HS, we will be fine in the long run, even if I go to a different college. I'm sure there will be rough spots, I think I'm more realistic about that than he is. Which may be good, though, seeing as he will be the one at college and not me! Keep the advice/stories coming! My bf is away at college and we have been together about a year. It has been rough but we have been able to go through it. He comes down to visit and he has breaks for weeks in which he comes to see me. And now hes moving down to my hometown to be with me!

So it will be hard, and it won't be anything like when you were seeing eachother everyday. Its difficult but if you love that person and don't want to let them go then nothing can break you guys apart.!

I know plenty of people who have made the transfer from high school to college and then to married. My sister included. So, I think it is totally posisble and it sounds great that he really wants to make it work.

But my high school bf and I broke up after I left for college.

Just make sure that you don't let this relp drag you down. It's tempting to make huge life decisions based on your bf... Don't do it. don't choose your college based on where he is or anything. If you guys are meant to be togetheer, you'll make it no matter where you are. Also, don't forget to keep reevaluating your relationship to make sure you are happy in it. Don't keep yourself from experiencing new things because you are tied to your bf.

We usually only see each other on weekends, and maybe once more during the week. We go to different High Schools. (we were apparently at the same schools from kindergarten to 9th grade...but didn't meet until I changed schools! weird ) I'm hoping this will make things a little bit easier, seeing as it won't be such a huge change. It will definitely be hard though, especially imagining all the other girls he'll be around! I tend to get jealous easily, but I really do trust him, so I think I'll manage. I'm loving all these success stories! Everyone I've asked has said he'll "see what is out there" when he goes to college and there's no way we'll make it. I have faith in us though. Thanks for all the help!

Also, I have already told him that I'd be willing to look at the college he'll be at, but if it's not the college for me, then so be it. I do plan to stay in the same state, so that won't bee too bad, but it'd always be nice if his college is what I'm looking for Definitely would never base that decision on him though. Especially since I am fully aware that, even if we go to the same college, we could break up. I'm going to make sure I'm a the college I'm at for ME, and no one else
