New strain of HIV - rapid advancement to AIDS and highly drug resistant

http://sev.prnewswire.com/health-car...1022005-1.html

A new strain of drug-resistant HIV has reared its ugly head. It also rapidly progresses from HIV to AIDS in months rather than years.

I was reading in the paper that a lot of young people are increasingly engaging in unprotected sex because they think that if they get tested regularly and HIV does show up, they can run to the doctor and be treated and everything will be hunky-dory. That is NOT the case! There is no cure for AIDS and with this new strain, its a lot less likely that people with HIV will survive until a cure is found.

I read this article and thought about some of the people on LoveShack who maybe don't know, or don't seem to care, or think that they can get a shot, or that unprotected sex is somehow worth the risk, or.....

Please be careful everyone! Sex is great, but its not worth dieing for!

Hokey,

We can thank those who were on meds to control the HIV virus for this super HIV!

As with strept and stash, people are under the assumption if they feel better the bug is gone which it is not!

This is one reason why I am pursuing to furthering the research of the HIV, TB, STREPT, and STAPH!

I totally agree..Sex might be great fun and all but it is so important to use protection- and get TESTED PEOPLE!! the amount of sexually active people i know who dont take responsibility for their sexual health alarms me...almost as much as the amount of sexually active people who don't use protection!

In my area I know there are too many ppl having unprotected sex and don't even seem to care. My friends included. I get tested every couple of months. Well, I haven't in a while because I've been with my bf for 7 months and no one else. I know I still should. There are some things you can pick up in other ways. Like Genital Warts (HPV) you can get just from sharing a towel with someone. You can have it and not even know it. I found out I had HPV when I was having test done during my pregnancy. I had no clue. I also had cervical dysplasia. I had to have cryosurgery to take care of that.

I just can't believe I had no idea. Sometimes you just don't ever get any symptoms, but you carry the virus. It makes you wonder what other stuff we might have and not know about.
