Ask her to go out for coffee or can I ask her for her number?

I like this girl in my class and she likes me too. She's given me the signs. We haven't talked too much, but things have been getting better lately. I talk to her and i'm less shy. I think i'm ready to make a move, but don't know what's best.
Should I ask her if she'd like to go out for coffee one day? Or is it okay to ask her if it was possible to exchange my number with her?

If there's a coffee shop or some place near campus, then after class just tell her you're going there and ask if she'd like to join you. Keep it simple and definite.

i'd definitely feel more comfortable if the guy asked me out for coffee first

if she says yes, then you can pose the question - do you wanna meet somewhere or would you like me to pick you up?

theeeen if she wants a ride, that'd give you a good reason to ask for her number

Liek the girl at work whenever I talked to her about making plans to go out I told her well I can always pick you up and she said "I can always meet you somewhere" I mean why would she not trust me picking her up for? Could it be cause if she isnt sure about me she wants her own car so she could leave early?

But what should I do since we're both students and very busy in this grad school. I'm sure we could make time for coffee one evening, but wouldn't exchanging my number with hers be so much easier. That way if she gives It I could call her and talk to her a bit and then ask her if she would like to go out for coffee one day?
I have this gut feeling she wants me to make a move and when I used my cell phone one day to tell her the time it's almost as if she was lookin at it and wanting me to ask her for her number.
I definately don't want to jeopardize anything by asking her to exchange numbers so if it's not a good idea and asking her out to go for coffee is the better option and safer thing to do please do give advice b/c i'm so confused!!!
