Rent your costumes!!! I can't remember the name of the society...let me google it-I mean if you WANT a medieval wedding you're probably famiilar with it.
I couldn't remember the name of it either. Can you fit a tent in the backyard? The only somewhat medieval music I can think of is Dead Can Dance.... dunno. You want guests to do it too?
No, no one will know your wedding isn't catered (I mean except for lack of caterers) if you do it buffet style. If you're having a medieval theme you should have meat-I mean like roast pork, roast beef. etc. My sister had a budget wedding that WAS catered but it was a buffet style. Not as expensive.
I am too busy being insulted on other threads to really take a look at the site but I'm SURE they'll have suggestions and instructions on how to make costumes, etc. I've known people active in the SCA who've had themed weddings...someone will have a webpage with links
Oooh, I love medieval stuff! The only money savers I can help you with are to make as much as you can yourself. I think I probably saved $400 alone on the invitations. You said you were making shirts for the guys? If you don't have a pattern yet, wait until the fabric stores have sales...you can get patterns for as low as 99 cents. What kind of dress were you thinking of wearing? If it's something that just requires a simple chemise and skirt, make those yourself too. Unless you're an experienced seamstress, I would buy the bodice. And if your friends want to bring food, let them! It'd be rude to ask them to do it, but since they offered, there's no reason not to taken them up on the offer.
I just discovered -- from my mom, of all people -- The Mediaeval Baebes. They're great, although since you say your brother is writing music maybe you're not looking for recorded stuff?
I have absolutely nothing new to suggest, but the ideas are great! I also think a pot luck feast would be fun. Then, you would have a variety of food (maybe you guys could supply the mounds of meat Mr Spock suggested) and the buffet would make it casual enough that you can have time with all your guests. And it seems that at pot lucks even if some people don't bring food, there is alway too much.
