Motivation needed

I can't stay motivated to go to the gym lately!!! I try to get up and go in the morning but it's so hard!!! Then after work I"m all tense and tired and it's getting dark early and I don't want to do it!!!! Just wanted to vent my frustration and see what others do to stay motivated. Plus there is a girl at my gym that really annoys me and I don't even know why cause we don't even talk but she makes me feel strange. I feel like she hates me as much as I hate seeing her there everyday.

Why don't you smile & say hello? You might make a new friend & gym-motivator all in one go.

Kill them with kindness. Just smile, and be on your way. I always find it harder to go to the gym in the winter months when there's less daylight.......

Try going in the mornings, if you can. Getting up a little earlier. You'll feel worse in the end by not going at all.

Thanks for the advice! I would lilke to go in the morning. I tried to get up today and go but it is soooo cold!!! And I couldn't sleep well last night but I am making myself go tonight after work. I hate this time of year it makes me feel so tired all the time and depressed. I think a lot of people feel that way though.

Motivation has been a big challenge in my workouts, but I'm finally working out regularly. I work out outside, so I don't go to a gym, but to get myself movitated I do a few mind tricks:

The "five-minute rule" -- on those dark, cold mornings, vow to put yourself through the motions for five minutes. Get out of bed, get dressed in your workout clothes, grab your keys, etc. If after five minutes, you're still not in the mood, give yourself permission to not go. However, once you're dressed and ready to go, most often, you just keep that momentum going right to the gym!

Get dressed for it -- like the five-minute rule. Get dressed to go to the gym, and then think about how you feel after you're dressed for a workout. Usually, you'll be ready to go at that point.

Think about what you'll think and feel in two hours -- Project ahead to after you do or don't go to the gym. Either you're going to be mad at yourself for not going or you're going to be proud of yourself and feeling alert and healthy. Ask yourself what you want to feel two hours from now? That's also a good motivator!

Sleep in your workout clothes -- Sometimes I know I'm not going to feel like working out the next day. So I just get dressed in my workout clothes the night before. Then, when I wake up the next morning, I know I'm past that "getting dressed" hurdle. I just get up, put my shoes on and go.

Get a telephone workout buddy (or an in-person one) -- This has been invaluable for me. I HATE, and I mean HATE, doing weight training. So I always found reasons not to do any weight training, even though I did my cardio exercise faithfully. However, about two months ago my mom and I developed a pact. She lives in Denver and I live in St. Louis. At 6:15 my time, 5:15 her time, I call her and we chat for a few minutes just to wake ourselves up and offer some "get-going" words of motivation! It hasn't failed. After our chat, I'm past that drowsy state and awake. I immediately go to my weights, because that's what she's been instructed to tell me do! Likewise, she gets up and gets on the treadmill. Later that morning, we e-mail each other to see how it went. Before we started calling each other, we just slept through, until it was too late for me to do a weight workout and too late for her to do cardio.

So those are things that have worked for me....good luck!

my motivation is anger and frustration that has built up through out the day.
I swim Laps, so i also visualise my arm strokes as Knife swipes sometimes...like i am violently murdering who ever pissed me off that day.. Like The Gym Chic You hate! I really helps chill me out!

it also helps to remember that even when i do not want to go, i am always sooo glad that i did and i feel better.

Those are all such great ideas THANKS!!! I have got to force myself to go cause I am so paranoid about getting heavy again. Plus, all my jeans from last year are way too tight in the a$$ and it's making me furious. I hate having a round bottom. That's where all my weight goes first but I guess it's better than anywhere else. lol.

My motivation -- trying on clothes that I've grown out of!

I ordered some new clothes for work and they came in Monday. I ordered my regular size and they were all too big! I have to exchange them for the next size down!

That's motivation for me!
