So my birthday is coming up, and I don't want to get my hopes up.

My birthday is this sunday, and it will be my 1st birthday I have had with my boyfriend. Or any boyfriend now that I think about it. I keep day dreaming about cute things he could do but Im really affraid he isn't going to do anything super special and Im going to be dissapointed. If he just gets me a simple gift should I just be appreciative and try to still have a good day, or should I tell him I wished he would have taken me out for the day/night or something? I don't want to be totally bummed out and make him feel like ****, but I dont want to feel like **** because he didnt spoil me like i wanted but have to ACT happy. what do i do

Drop some major hints if you want something specific for your birthday. (As in, "Take me here, plan this, do that, give me X, tell me Y.") If he were psychic, he'd be earning $1.99/minute running his own psychic phone-in service.

Alternatively, you could just not give him any hints, wait for the inevitable disappointment, then pout angrily for the next week, refusing to tell him what is wrong.

First, remind him that this sunday is your bithday. Just to be sure he knows.....some people just forget birthdays (without doing it on purpose) and actually appreciate that people reminds them.

Let him know you would like to be taken to some special place for your birthday.
As solemate said, make sure he has *big* hints! .

In case you let him know that going out would be very important to you, and yet you only get 'a simple gift', try to appreciate the gift.

take him out instead!
"Hey, it's my birthday and I'm taking you out to celebrate".

What did you do on his birthday?
Did you take him out? Did you throw a party for him?
Did he *excpect* you to go out of your way for his birthday?
If so he'd better plan something *really* nice for yours!

We havnt been together for his birthday yet (his is in december). Im not taking him out, he should take me out. We are both really into cars and about every weekend we go to the track and race, this saturday night is the last night racing for the year and we were planning on celebrating my birthday saturday because I have two practices (cheerleading) sunday and then am going to go out with my family. He asked me if I wanted to go to the track and I said it was up to him. It is the last night so I wouldn't want to miss it, but I want to go out and have a romantic night as well. I asked what he had planned and he said " a suprise" but I know he doesnt have anything planned yet. He caught a really bad cold and I dont know, everything just seems to be going down hill. I don't want to make him take me out if he feels like crap. If we stayed home he would just fall asleep, it wouldnt be like a romantic night or anything. Who know I fed him chicken noodle soup and a handfull (exageration) of vitamin C last night so hopefully he'll feel better by tomorrow I want a pretty ring.

Why you didn't tell him "yes, but i'd also like to have a romantic night"?
"It's up to you" is not really helping him...it's more like a wicked test!

How can you know he hasn't?

Would it really make any difference if he took you out for your bithday a few days later when he feels better????

I wouldn't think much of a bf that would be more worried about not going out on his bday than about how I'm feeling.

Does your bf has a clue what you'd like to receive for your birthday?
If not he'll never guess you want a ring....also, if it's the first bday you spend together(and thus you've been dating for a year or less)...isn't it a little soon to give you a ring?

And isn't it too big of a gift to expect? (unless your bf earns a lot of money and/or you are an high-maintenance lady. )

Sorry, but it sounds like you are trying your best to spoil your bday yourself.

Not like an engagement ring, just a pretty ring of some sort, or a neclace. I've never gotten much from any guy before, and I have all these dreams in my head I want to come true lol. I know I'm expecting a lot, but I spoil him all the time (granted he spoils me a lot too) and I don't think a 200-300 dollar ring/jewlery of any type would be TOO much to ask. That is a wonderful idea I should tell his best friend/my friend what I want so he can pass the word on. I told his sister and law when we hung out alone what I wanted but I don't know if she told him or gave him any ideas or anything. I will be happy with anything as long as he does something. I would be happy even if we delayed my bday till next weekend so he could be better, but I have a feeling he'll do something saturday while he's sick cause he doesn't want to wait. Who knows. He always seems to make me happy at the end of the day so Im sure he will for my birthday too, right?
