Buddy jealous of me! Girl still fair game?

Okay well me and my friend Alex were shopping at one of those stores that selld novelty t-shirts (like sexsi in stead of pepsi or like misterhard instead of mastercard, I got one that said "for my next trick i'll need a condom and a volunteer")...its one of those stores that sells bongs and posters and swords...anyways the chick behind the counter in MAD HOT....so we pretend that we need help and she comes over and me and him are both talking to her off and on for like 15 minutes, both of us talking about the same amount....anyways I finally decide that the XL is fine after all aand we go to the checkout and while I am paying with my interac card Alex asks if she has a boyfriend. She says no. He asks if she has msn. She says no but she just got her phone hooked up. He asks for her numer, and I swear to god he said do you want to go out for coffee with mesometime?...she says sure and they are going to call and decide when to do it..no big deal i missed an opportunity to ask her out before he did....heres where the story gets crazy.

Today we were shopping for posters at the same mall and the same girl was working...alex had called her a couple of times but they still didnt have a time arranged for their "coffee".....andways he was talking to her and he says "I hevent been to the movies here in a while will you go with me?" So they are going to the movies on sunday apparently....whatever anyways we were walking away from the store and me, Javeed, Stefan, and Jeremy are giving Alex a hard time about his awkward pickup lines, friendly joking, andways I jokingly said "dude, I'm going to go over there and ask her out" and i start walking back to the store....I got like 3 steps and Alex was trying to kick my ass, Jeremy and Stefan are holding him back and he is swearing at the top of his lungs and threatening me and everything....Even when I tell him im joking he doesnt stop bitching at me.

Where the hell does he get off being like that? They have talked for a total of maybe 15 minutes! As if this girl isn't fair game still! Im so pissed im going to go there later today and ask her out myself....wtf do you think I should do? Did I do something wrong by joking like that? We have been really good friends for the first 3 weeks of college up until today...(really yesterday, try not to get confused, its 6am here and i haven't slept yet. Viva la college.)

Trust me, you *don't* want a friend who overreacts like this. If you were not exagerating when you described his reaction, and if yours was truly only an harmless joke, stay away from this guy, he's not a guy worth hanging out with.

Do not ask the girl out!!!! It would be: being childish, and putting yourself in danger.
And no, asking her out would not have been fair game.

Your friend asked her out before you did - like you said - you missed out on that one.

If you want to remain friends with your buddy stay away from her for the time being.

Yes. Maybe his reaction was over the top. You guys were ribbing him about the whole thing & he was probably already a littled pissed off to begin with. You know how hard it is to ask a girl out like that, don't you? If a friend, even jokingly, intimated that they were going to try & scupper my chances of getting to know someone better I would be pretty pissed too.

well fair enough guys....i guess i was wrong too but he had NO fing right to get as mad as he did....it happens to the best of us though.....

if it was the first time he acted like this, and you and the three other guys had been making fun of him and joking at him for a while...well, I guess it really can happen even to 'the best ones' to lose their temper.

Your other friends actually having to hold him is pretty scary though.

Do you think he might have tried to actually punch you or hit you? Swearing and threatening, I can understand (and he has my sympathy here) but phisically harming you is too much.

Was it the very-very first time you were teasing him for his pick up lines-or about girls in general?
Or there is an history of him being joked at?

Is he a shy person, and does he usuallly have problems asking girls out?
I like his pickup lines, by the way.

Does he joke at you and the other guys, too?
Or is he usually the target of jokes?

no he jokes just as much probably more than we do with him....we are friends and the five of us have become pretty good friends in the first 3 weeks here....he has never snapped like that before and he is way smoother with girls than I could ever hope to be. I have no idea why that particular action set him off, wont be doing it again tho'.
