first date timing question
if you get somebody's # on a Saturday, is it cool to call on a wed & ask them out for the following week - or is it expected that you'll call earlier and ask ask for the coming week?

I don't know what the girl expects. Sounds like you're trying to "game" it - don't want to look too eager, but don't want to appear uninterested either. I wouldn't bother with all the drama. If you would like to spend an evening with her, call her at any convenient time and invite her out.
