How long it takes is up to you. Take in less calories then you burn and you'll lose weight. If you need 2,000 calories for you body to work efficiently, then you'd need to eat 1,000 a day in order to lose 2 pounds after one week. That's considering that you do NO EXERCISE at all.
3500 calories = a pound
You take in 3500 more calories then you need over a period of time, you gain a pound. Take in 3500 calories less then your body needs, lose a pound.
Calculate your metabolic rate and take into account how many calories you burn doing exercise and then track how many calories you eat per day and you'll lose weight. How fast is up to you. The slower the better though.
