My step mom is a fitness coach at Curves and she loves it. Everyone I have talked to about it says it is a really great program. They love the no men atmosphere and all the fun they have talking and laughing while working out.
I was thinking about doing the curves thing because I can get a discount through my employer. I'm not over weight, I would just like to tone up. You know, I'm 40, the butt jiggles, the thighs jiggle, the belly is getting rounder... (I hate getting old!).
Anyhoo, is Curves good for toning up, too or is it just a weight loss thing? Everyone I know that goes there is doing so for the purpose of weight management.
It's for toning those muscles too. Go check it out, I can guarantee you'll fall in love with the process of how it works. My month is coming up on the first of August (you get measured and weighted once per month) and I'll let you guys know how many inches I've lost, if any. I feel better, I don't think I've lost weight. I eat better too. This is only my first month going. I love it there!
What if you don't want to lose weight just have fun?

Ok guys here's the low-down. I've lost 13 inches and gained 2.5 pounds. I'm still loving it! Sometimes I feel like it's not challenging enough, but hey, it's better than doing nothing. I go 3 days a week faithfully.
I'm not too happy about the weight gain, but they said as long as you're losing inches. Then the whole 'muscle weighs more than fat' thing too. My clothes don't feel looser though. Just being honest.
Sorry for the late reply, I just noticed this thread now.
I joined Curves in November of 2003 and I love it! I didn't join really to try and lose a whole lot of weight though. I joined to get toned, stay toned, and to be active during the winter months.
After a year, my overall appearance has changed. I am toned and can even lift up the huge Poland Spring water bottle and put it in the water cooler.
Seriously though, it has made a tremendous difference in my life. I feel better physically and with the resistance training, even if you miss a few weeks here or there it doesn't take long at all to get back on track. Your muscles really retain their strength.
Don't worry about the weight gain, it's very common! Even if you gain weight, you're still burning fat. I never budged in weight but I look thinner because I've replaced the fat with muscle. It only took 2 or 3 months to start seeing a real difference.
A great forum that I post at is http://www.curvesforum.com/forum/ Check it out. All the ladies there are so lovely! Glad you enjoy Curves!

This is great! There is one across the street from work and I was thinking of joining but you know how it is, you get a little apprehensive about gyms. I did visit and like the women only thing, and the fast pace. It only holds about 5 women, but they rotate every 5 minutes, so you don'y have to wait. Now that I see all the pos feedback, I'll go this week. I'm really small, but I do need to tone up, so I'm looking forward to seeing a difference pretty quick. I'm glad I found this thread!

Ms. M, I'm glad we could help you about your decision on Curves. It really is a great place! What keeps me going back to it is that it's a positive atmosphere and you really don't have to think about what you're doing. You just plop on the machine, do your reps and move on. I've found with the circuit training system, I actually stick to going regularly.
Check out the Curves Forum too. It's great for feedback and encouragement too! Write back later and let us know how you are liking it! Also, they will give you a free trial around the circuit and if you don't like it, you don't have to join. Best of luck to you!
