I know what you are saying....I have a really bad memory myself!!! I don't know why some people seem to have a good one....while others struggle with it. I don't know if it's a medical prob or I'm just goofy.......LOL!

I can say there are a few things way back in my past which were awful and I HAD to forget them.....and if you have to force your mind to have to forget something...maybe you trigger off something wierd. I really don't know.

There are books on developing better memory. Here's some:

The Memory Bible: An Innovative Strategy for Keeping Your Brain Young
by Gary Small (Author) (Paperback - September 2003)

The Memory Book : The Classic Guide to Improving Your Memory at Work, at School, and at Play
by Harry Lorayne (Author), Jerry Lucas (Author) (Paperback - August 1996)

Intelligent Memory: Improve the Memory That Makes You Smarter
by Barry Gordon, Lisa Berger (Hardcover - September 2003)

The Memory Jogger II
by Michael Brassard, et al (Spiral-bound)

There are medications that impair recent memory function. Also, lack of sleep, stress and depression will affect memory and no number of books will help. If that's the case you'll have to get more sleep, reduce stress and get help for the depression.

However, the books are great if you just need help with developing memory skills. I often start out to get something on the other side of the house and then when I get there forget what I was going for. But that's been happening for years. I don't know what the cause is. Maybe a defective brain...at least others would agree.

Bill Cosby used to have a skit in which he claimed that one's memory is in one's butt because he'd get up to get something, forget what it was, go all the way back and sit down - and then remember LOL.

Moimeme put some book titiles up but I forget what they are.

I have tried to reduce stress, eat better, plenty of exercise and sleep. I've tried vitamins and fish oil and reading books to help memory. I even tried those Focus Factor vitamins I see advertised. Nothing has helped me except my day planner and lots of post-it notes!

I actually had a minor stroke some years back. I didn't even know it happened until I was talking with some friends and we were talking about our marriage proposals and I realized I have absolutly no memory of my husband proposing. Nothing, zip, zero, zilch. Then I tried to remember other things that my family told me about and I couldn't -- its like they never happened to me. Some memories I can feel in the past -- like I know something happened or was said, but I don't remember what it was. I had a scan done and some other tests and the doctor told me that my brain showed signs of me having at least one small stroke -- maybe several.

If you think your problem is serious - get thee to a doctor. Otherwise there are some mental exercises that you can do to help stimulate the memory process. Believe it or not the doctor told me to play the game Concentration to help exercise my brain. But don't play the same game more than 3 times because then its just random memorization and ceases to be exercise.
