The temp agencies are what I would suggest. I lost my job last May and haven't found a permanent one yet. I also support my family so it's all on my shoulders! Cut your expenses to the bare bone and try to find some temp work. I've been very fortunate that I found a long-term contract job -- it doesn't pay near what I used to earn, but it keeps us from losing the house. I hope to find a permanent job soon because this one ends in January. Temp jobs dry up a little around then because everyone is back from their vacations - but now would be a good time for temp work. You'll also be able to get some more experience in a different working environment that you will be able to use later on. Maybe even make some contacts. It will be easier to ask your dad for money if you can show him your plan and let him know how much you are trying now.
Also, even in today's economy some stores are hiring Christmas help - you don't have to tell them you are leaving in six weeks.
What about baby-sitting? Or hiring yourself out as a housekeeper? A lot of people who actually DO have money will hire someone to help them clean the house in preparation for their own holiday season, and with parties and things they might need some baby-sitting too. I'm doing that myself this year -- I'm not going to the Christmas Party at my contract job (I was invited, but said no) and instead I'm babysitting some of their kids.
