Blast from the Past: Is this weird?

I went on about 4 or 5 dates with a guy I met at a party. I really liked him (okay, he was hot) then things kind of fizzled out and he never contacted me again. That was about 8 months ago and I remembered that it was his birthday last week so I decided to send him a text message wishing him a happy birthday. I thought this was kind of a pathetic thing to do seeing as he clearly wasn't interested in me but what the hell, I figured I'd already lost my pride after being dumped anyway. Well to my surprise he actually responded, thanking me and saying "we must catch up soon." This seemed kinda rhetorical so I just wrote back "Yeah give me a call sometime." (whatever!). Well he messaged again the following night, asking how I was, but called me "sweety" so I assumed he meant to send it to someone else. I didn't respond. He then messaged me again a couple of nights later saying he hoped I was well, but not actually asking me anything. Again, I left it. Well last night I got a missed call from him and he left a message saying he just called to say hi. So I wrote a message today saying I was busy at work but should have my phone on me over the weekend. I think this might have been a bit rude (should I have just called him back? I don't know what to say!).

Well, I'm not sure what my question is... the whole situation just surprises me. Why would he not call 8 months ago and now be interested? Or maybe he's just being polite? I don't know. I've harboured these fantasies about him being Mr Perfect for so long now that I'm afraid to reignite things and be disappointed. And I think I may have blown things last time being too clingy... I hope I don't do the opposite the second time around!

Why worry?

Sounds like this guy likes you if he's repeatedly made attempts to contact you.
Sometimes Timing Is Everything. Maybe 8 months ago the timing was wrong, he might have had other things going on in his life that were taking up his attention or his head just wasnt in it at the time. Whatever the reason, sounds like you made enough of a good impression to rekindle his interest again.

I would stop the avoidance games if you really like this guy. You dont have to chase him, you made the first move already by contacting him and he responded positively. Why not see where it goes?

Mr Perfect really isnt perfect, and as long as you think he is you are going to feel intimidated and not be at your best. Just be yourself! He might be attractive, but looks are only skin deep. If you stop reacting to his 'hotness' and relate to him as a person you'll have more confidence in yourself, and he will also find you more interesting.

Dont play too "hard to get", I dont think that works all the time. Just be friendly and sweet and let nature take its course. If it works out, great. But remember, HE'S JUST A GUY not a god. Now, if you owe him a phone call, call him back!
