Am I losing it or is it OCD?

Bare with me on this one everyone it will definitely sound a little weird. Lately I've been obsessively grinding my teeth at the thought of my inner ankle bones touching/grinding together. Imagine clanking your feet together and having your inner ankles collide and the bone on bone action this would cause. I've always been uncomfortable when my inner ankle bones touched each other but I never really thought about it until it actually happened. Now I'm thinking about it all the time and find myself constantly grinding my teeth because it's like the equivalent of the classic 'nails on the chalkboard' sound/feeling to other people. I'm almost certain this is OCD related. Does anyone have any similar problems such as this one?

OCD is when an obsession (an unwatnted though) leads to a compulsion (an action).... are you thinking anything that's causing you to grind teeth etc? That might just be anxiety? I grind my teeth when I sleep. If you don't do something about it, like get a mouthguard, you will need to get your teeth replaced, as it wears them down.

yes, but not this in particular. go to a doctor, they can use other people's past experiences to help this sort of thing. you do know this is ridiculous right?

My family has a long history of OCD and my sister suffered with it alot. I myself have some obsessive traits but I wouldnt class myself as having OCD.

In my sisters case my parents say they could see even from an early age she demonstrated the traits of someone who suffers from OCD.

Has anyone in your family been affected by it or can you think of any other things where you have demostrated this kind of behaviour, it may just be a phase you are going through if your stressed about something.

Thank you for the replies everyone. Yes, I do know how ridiculous this is, however that still doesn't explain why it is there. The good new is though that it has decreased quite a bit and may just in fact be a function of stress more than anything else. When I posted this, I was going through a tremendous amount of stress from work and school and perhaps my mind needed to break the anxiety from those two areas in my life and focus on something else...? I've been able to cut down on some of the stress recently and haven't noticed any recurring thoughts or compulsions.

i do not obsess over this, but when i use knives i always imagine horrid things- and yes i have cut the bejesus out of my fingers.... but i imagine slicing down the middle of my tongue with a knife...

i do not know why- it is just one of those thoughts and mental images that pops in my head when i am handling knives.... i have had this thought since i was little, i clench my fists when i think of it (instead of grinding my teeth)
