Quitting smoking while drinking

So I'm back into my quitting smoking mode (it's day #2 LOL but hey it's a start. Longest I've quit was 4 months at a pack a day, cold turkey] and I want to know for all you people who have quit smoking (even WHILE drinking), how could I convince myself that I could still enjoy drinking?

I literally feel really sleepy after 1 drink and maybe it's the company that I'm with, but I really feel so much different if I'm smoking and drinking rather than when I'm not.I kinda feel sad knowing that I won't be able to smoke :-( Anyone else feel this way?

I sometimes don't even look forward to drinking if I KNOW that I can't smoke. I kinda feel like I'm missing out on something, and it's not fair that others "get to" smoke. [Though I know that is completely irrational and stupid.] How should I change my mindset so that I can keep my quit for good this time?

Thanks for any replies or comments!

I've done this before. What's really hard is if you are in a smoky bar. Where I live smoking is literally outlawed everywhere so that made it a bit easier.

I'm going for quit #8, or was that 9 here pretty soon. It will be rough cuz I'm so used to the little bastards.

I quit smoking 59 days ago. This was probably my 10th and final time.. Wanna hear how you get through this? A little phrase I heard in the early days of my quit....."Fake it 'til you make it".

Also, just DON'T SMOKE....no matter what! Take smoking off the table as an option and you won't do it. Not one puff ever (N.O.P.E.)!!!!!!

Best of luck to you!!

Thanks guys for the replies. I know that when I convinced myself and prepped myself psychologically for the quit, it was very simple. It's just that when it comes to drinking, my willpower goes right out the damn window. Luckily in Hawaii, where I live, smoking in bars are not allowed. That helps a lil' but not much. I swear, after 1 beer I feel really sleepy without a cig. Not kidding and that's sad considering I never feel sleepy when I drink and smoke. Ugh. I'm torn. Maybe I should give up drinking for a while again. Afterall, it kinda is the root of most evils in my life. Duno what to do but I shall take it one day at a time.

Weird. I don't know why cigarettes keep you awake... but in any case, try drinking a mixed drink with red bull or something. I know you're not supposed to mix energy drinks and alcohol but...try it. Maybe you're going to the bar too late, I dunno.

Anyhow, I haven't smoked since early April, quit cold turkey. It's definitely mind over matter and if you have weak days, just think about how gross it is. These days, smoking is NOT the "in" thing, and it makes you stink, and it yellows your teeth, and it's unhealthy, etc.

Don't get me wrong there are some days when I'd really like to have one, but it's just not worth it.

quit smoking products

So you want to quit smoking at the drinking time. But I think it is not possible.Since when we are drinking we easily loose our control on our mind.To quit smoking controlling mind is very important. So as my suggestion you first quit drinking.

I think the problem may be partly the drinking - it makes you lose control as the previous poster said.

I'm in the exact same position as you and I feel I need to give up both smoking and drinking at the same time. It's a really terrible prospect for me but if I want to live to a ripe old age, I don't think I have any alternative.

Having read a few books on addiction, I don't think there is any dependable method for overcoming addiction other than to will to take control of one's life. If one is lucky, I think one gets bored eventually with being in the grip of addiction.

I have done it... I quit smoking when still drinking... I used Chantix (tablets, do a search on the Internet)... then, I quit drinking as well. Drinking just made me wanting to smoke all the time and, anyway, drinking is not the same without smoking, and viceversa! I really enjoyed the combination of drinking + smoking, but without one of the elements, the other kind of loses the appeal...

Yes I found it hard too when I was having a drink while I was giving up smoking, but with time, it does get easier, until you don't even think about cigerettes when having a drink.

Emotional Freedom Technique is a simple acupressure technique for releasing negative feelings.

You feel negative feelings in the body, so you have to go to the body to work on them.

You can release a negative feeling right now with this video. Tapping is a great way to reduce the cravings you feel for cigarettes.

This helped me stop smoking, as for drinking i dont drink

When you feel the need to smoke, take another shot instead. Keep doing this until you pass out.

Oh, I've also heard of some smokeless cigarettes that you might try..
