is he a genuine guy?

theres a guy ive known for the past year who gave signs that he liked me but I didn't encourage him. He got together with a girl and seemed to parade her around in front of me almost like he wanted to see my reaction, every time he mentioned her name he looked over at me. One of his friends told me that he liked me but I ignored the comment and didn't act on it. Since then this guy was cold towards me but still stayed with this girl. I started being more friendly with him recently to test him and he's started flirting back.

is this guy a player or genuine? i think hes got a great personality but im not sure that should I take a chance with him?

Only one way to find out, right? Ask him out on a lunch date, like for a cup of coffee or something. (Just don't say the word "date".) If he seems interested in you, he'll definitely accept the offer.
