I have a friend I am interested in, but we have talked and he indicated that he wanted to date another girl. Prior to our talk, we communicated by phone (he called 80% of the time) at least an hour a day and sent multiple texts to one another each day.

Since our talk, things have gotten weird. When he calls me (now, it's like twice a week), he calls at times when he purposefully knows he's only got 5 minutes to talk. On the two occasions I've called him (over a month and a half time span), he's talked to me for over an hour and a half.

I've made it clear that I'm ok with our friendship being only a friendship, and when we talk it's not strained or anything. But it seems very odd to me that he's so calculating now about spending time on the phone with me.

To make things even weirder, he bought me a very sentimental and fairly expensive birthday gift. I would think if he didn't want to send me any mixed messages he'd have not acknowledged the day, or at least just given me a card.

What do you guys make of that? Any replies would be helpful.
