So, I was talking with this cynical bloke yesterday, and the topic of long distance relationships came up. He asked me what I thought about them, and I told him that I think they can work.
I didn't elaborate then, but what I meant to say was that I think they can work if both parties are willing to put in the necessary effort to make it work. In this sense, I don't think there is much difference between LDRs and any other relationships because all require work, but it just so happens that LDRs possibly require "more" work, maybe.
And while the concept of LDRs does feel kind of strange to me, probably because I have never engaged in one, I don't think they are "absurd," like I know some people think.
Anyway, this guy replied, not by saying that he doesn't think they can work, but but by saying that they "don't exist."
WTF?
What are your opinions on these types of relationships? Do you think they can work or not? Or do you think they are nonexistent altogether?
I think they can work, but for them to work well I believe that there needs to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Like 6months from now we will be in the same place. I know of married couples that live in different states. I wouldn't want to do it, but it is done.
Don't exist? I have no idea what that guy even means.
LDR's do indeed exist, and they can and do work.
I've had two.
My first - we were together 2 years, LD 2 years, and together another 2 years before we broke up.
My second - we knew each other for many years prior, were LD for 18 months, and have been living in the same city for the last 6 months...still together...
LDRs are cool because you can write poems and stuff. The Internet is definitely a boon for LDRs. No more three-digit (or even four-digit!) phone bills.
What could be sexier than writing a loving note for each day you'll be apart, and sticking it in a jar for them.
It's the anticipation that makes these things HOT.
The day finally comes, and all that tension gets released in a giant flaming ball of passion.

Wow, Magic, I think that's the nicest thing I've ever seen you write...
It's nice to see you've finally showed your true colours...I always suspected it!
