pain vs pleasure as motivator

I think it depends on the person.

Selfish people tend to seek repetitive pleasurable activities.

Giving people might be more sensitive to pain, and therefore will do more to avoid it.

I'm loyal to a fault as well. I learnt that just because I can take the pain, doesn't mean I should. Sometimes we assume everyone is as strong as we are, and it is such a disappointment when they are shown to be weaker.
