How long can a divorce take?

I was wondering how long can a divorce take if there are assets to be divided and the wife is not happy with it?

Any ideas?

My divorce took two months mostly because we had been seperated for over a year and there was little left to divide up.

A guy I work with where everything was contested had his drag on for over two years.

My state required a 90 day waiting period (after filing) - because we have a child. We also had to take parenting classes. Mine = 90 days.

It varies by state. You will have to consult an attorney. He can't give you an exact time though. Setting a court date depends on how busy the court is. Several little things can add time. Like fighting and assets...If she doesn't want the divorce, she will get it delayed as long as possible.

I've read it can vary from 60 days to 10 years. The average being about 1 year.

Length depends

Mine took three months and 29 days from filing to the final decree. I filed in Texas and the minimum waiting period is sixty days no matter what the circumstances. The key to a quick divorce here is to get straight to the final divorce decree, that is the document that divides up the assets and liabilities between the two spouses. As soon as you both can agree on that document the rest is just waiting for a court date to finalize it. I know people with kids who've taken years to get to that point. Good luck.
