As old as I am you'd think I would have a clear understanding of this phrase but I need a clear definition. I've always had long term relationships so I guess it's never come up before but I really want to know -

What is the "rebound" guy or girl?

Rebound applies to both gender.

People that come off a relationship (usually long term) look for someone to fill that void that they had with their ex. Shortly after breaking up, they will start a new relationship with a person hoping to fill that void.

They then realize that they don't relate or click with the new person because in most cases the new person doesn't posses or lacks most of the qualities that attracted you to your ex or sometimes your personal preferences.
