Supervisor went AWOL...

[El Brujo]

...which means I'm now the #1 guy by default in my department. It sucks, and I'll tell you why:

1. I'm now expected to do the work of 2 guys.

2. AND I'm supposed to find the time to train the 2 new guys in all the arcane procedures which took me years to learn.

3. Nobody at the company has had a raise in EIGHT YEARS.

4. My workplace is not air-conditioned, and we're talking Los Angeles here... being baked every day is NOT FUN.

5. All the guys in my department get no respect, and as far as the other departments care, we deserve no respect.

6. I suck at kissing a$$.

 

OTOH it rules, and I'll tell you why:

1. Since my supervisor went AWOL, for me it was like going from being the veep to being the prez. If I went AWOL, it would REALLY hurt the company because it would take years to train any new guys in all the arcane little BS procedures I get paid to do.

2. Even the CEO knows I'm not as stupid as he thinks, and he knows if he makes one wrong move, I'm walking.

3. A nice little nest egg (6 figures) is ALL MINE the day I walk.

4. When the day comes, I'm going the self-employment route. I'd rather make all I want to and pay the taxes myself than build someone else's dream and barely make enough to pay my bills.
