Dairy products are bad for your health

Latest huge study in the British Medical Journal.

"High milk intake was associated with higher mortality in one cohort of women and in another cohort of men, and with higher fracture incidence in women."

I eat Greek yogurt nearly everyday and always get dry eyes immediately afterward. As a child I hated milk. I think my body is trying to tell me something. I will try to eat cheese and ice cream as occasional treats from now on.

I never drink milk as I don't like the taste of it. I used to eat cheese a lot, but felt very fatigued after eating it, and read somewhere that it is basically concentrated milk with salt, and apparently it is very hard to digest, and that could explain the fatigue and feeling "heavy" after eating it. I don't eat yogurt, as I don't really like the taste of it, but the few times that I do eat it, I always make sure it does not have any added sugar.

Is it possible either of you could be lactose intolerant? Anyways, I think like 2/3 of the world or even 3/4 are lactose intolerant as humans weren't meant to consume cows milk. Everything in moderation. I usually drink non-dairy myself as it's better tasting and lighter on the calories.

I cut nearly all dairy out, save for a small quantity of cheese, about a pound a month, and that's a big deal, coming from a northern European family where dairy was a big part of life. Heck, my mom literally milked the cows for the family when she was young. I grew up on farm fresh milk in my young years; old fashioned 'whole' milk. Can't say whether it's good or bad. Her genes allowed her to eat and drink dairy her whole life and she lived to nearly 90 and was healthy for at least 80 of that.

For myself, dairy fats are a problem for my gall bladder so goodbye dairy. Don't really miss it. About the only time I do is when friends have ice cream after dinner and I have to decline. Sure looks good!

I cut milk and cream out of my diet many years ago, though I still indulge in cheeses from time to time. French heritage. Sometimes I can't say 'non' to some good camembert or roquefort. Soooo good.

To anyone who hasn't tried one I'd recommend giving an elimination diet a go at least once in this lifetime. It's pretty spartan and requires some discipline to get you through the first week or so, but it gave me a lot of insights into food types I should generally avoid in my regular diet. Not to mention that each time I was on the diet I probably never felt better in my life :p Why I keep going back to my old ways I just don't know ... Silly man I am

I am not cutting dairy out...

I love milk (we have an artisan dairy round the corner from one of my offices and its out of this world... just as I remember as a child when collecting in the old milk churns straight from the dairy... yummy), I love cheese, I love yoghurt, cream I am not so fond of but my father would be in turmoil with out it! A day with out a jam and and cream sandwich would count as a day in hell for him!

Any food in excess will be bad for you. That is why we have variety!

Plenty of fruit, veg, meat, pulses and dairy all mixed in with keeping fit and getting some activity and the vast majority of us are set to go.

I hear sleeping naked reduces the likelihood of diabetes... Its cold out there... I will take my chances with my pajamas!!!

those yogurts that you buy are not real yogurt, they suck in my opinion :)

Real yogurts are home made ones especially if you live on a farm :)

http://www.lattausa.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Plain_lr.jpg much better yogurt than "Greek" yogurt :)

there was this over 100 year old woman, they asked for her diet and she said she would drink milk each day

Dairy products are actually very good for you... or at least for a lot of people.

Others are lactose intolerant or buy inferior dairy products. It is easy to misfeed the cows.

Being Irish and Norwegian, dairy not only agrees with me (due to long histories of my ancestors consuming it), but it seems almost essential. I feel much more healthy and energetic with it than without.

I drink either local or organic milk, raw milk if available in a given state or region I'm in, enjoy good cheeses, make my own yogurt and kefir from good quality milk, etc....

In short, I would consider suicide to cutting out dairy.... and chocolate. lol

I've been practicing veganism (about 80/20) for several months now which means NO DAIRY and for being of an Italian/French background, this is H.A.R.D. and pretty much blasphemes :D

BUT...

I will say that I feel so much better WITHOUT dairy. Whenever I have a bit of dairy I IMMEDIATELY feel a shift in my digestion, increase in mucus, my asthma and coughing increases and on and on. It's insane and if I wasn't experiencing it first-hand I wouldn't believe it myself.

There are plenty of evidence written in articles and books and documentaries that confirm that consuming dairy is NOT necessary. You can get more than enough calcium and protein from countless plant sources.

Try some Valrhona cocoa powder next time you make brownies. And maybe throw some quality chips in as well. You can actually feel a tingle in the middle of your brain directly behind your forehead hairline as your mood goes to ecstatic. lol

It's highly addictive though.
