What do you call your mother's half sisters son? Half cousin?

Recommended Posts

Google didn't help much with that. We just learned that my grandma cheated on my grandpa and had my aunt from another man. Her son is my cousin, but since it's from another grandpa, so to speak, what does that make him to me?

I hope that makes sense lol

Sorry I apologize. Shouldn't have said that.

Your mother's sister's son is your first cousin.

No, you can't date him.

Unless, you're from Alabama. Or Tennessee.

:D

I'm joking. Kinda ....

Logic says a half first cousin.

Google said this:

HALF COUSINS: The word "Half" means only one of two parents is the blood parent, so where two siblings share only one parent, they are half-siblings. The children of these two half-siblings would be half-cousins, because they share only one of the grandparents.

Wikipedia also states half cousins is what your cousin is.

Technically, half-cousin, but I've never heard anyone say this. I'd just say "cousin," or maybe "newly-discovered cousin." Would you call your mom's half-sister your "half-aunt"? Probably not.

Hell, I call my cousins' spouses (cousins-in-law) my cousins, as well as their kids (1st cousin once removed). I also call my great-niece my "niece." I'm pretty sure my step-sons have never heard the terms half-brother and half-sister, even though they have a "half" with each parent.

It's just not worth the preciseness most of the time.

He's technically your half-cousin but you can refer to him as your cousin because saying half sounds weird.

Yeah, I agree. I'm pretty loose with the word cousin. My ex-husband's first cousin is still "my" cousin to me. Calling her just my "friend" sounds a little weird to me, although it's technically what she is now. (I also still call my nieces and nephew that even though I am not family to them anymore). I also call my cousin's spouses my cousins, usually. Not that there is a lot of occasion to really call them anything since they all live far away :).

Just because I have a C.I.L.F does not mean I am going to jump of that cliff.

Although said female cousin did hit on my wife once which brought up all sorts of wrong thoughts.:o:sick:
