To lie or not to lie?

Recommended Posts

Some times, people ask to lie or not to lie, with the intention of putting a band-aid fix over things in a manipulative way.

But the great questions is: What kind of person one is to be? That's the root fix to anything. And certainly becoming a better person is not as easy as just saying nice things. Here is a bonus: being a kind and good person makes one never need to lie.

There are little white lies - You sugar coat. You don't need to be nasty and say everything that you're thinking. You behave nicely and choose nice words.

There are lies by omission - Not everything is necessary to share and could cause damage. This can be a slippery slope depending on the issue at hand, but sometimes it's best not to share.

A kind and good person lies. Everyone lies. See "little white lie," above. A kind and good person won't say, "Your butt looks fat in those pants." (truth) They will say, "I don't think the cut flatters your figure. Try on another pair."

Everyone lies. We are born liars. Why do babies cry? It's not because they're in pain or agony. It's because they want their parents to show them attention or give them food. It's a form of manipulation, yes, but sometimes that's necessary for our survival. At least, until you become more independent.
