Why, can someone tell me Whyyyyyyy?

Recommended Posts

Ok, we as everyone knows, my girlfriend broke up with me back in December after she cheated on me and felt guilty because of it.

Now, I haven't talked to her or anything in the longest while. I would not even talk to her.

Now you ask what is the problem?

I have noticed recently I've been getting weird emails, from porn advertisements to other sick things. The one today had text in the subject that was quite odd. It was a four letter name, the name of my ex. This name is not common at all. I think she is signing me up for all this weird stuff, and I can't figure out why. She was known to do things like this to people that she didn't like when I was with her. Stuff like sending them stuff, egging their car, and much more.

This is so childish. I don't see how else my email could have gotten around, only thing that I signed up for recently was this forum. And how her first name, or shorthand form of it, appeared in this email is quite shocking me. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe i'm right, but that's the only person I know that would do something like this.

Does anyone know how to rid myself of most of these "mailing lists"? It is really starting to get on my nerves.

It might be easy, but it depends on what email software you use and to some extent your internet service provider.

The newer versions of Microsoft Outlook have the ability to screen email. Look under Tools > Message Rules. There you will find the settings to block email from certain people or entire domains. You can also setup mail rules that will automatically put email containing certain words or phrases into a special folder (like the trash).

AOL, Compuserve and others have the same features tucked away in there software too.

Don't despair. I get lots of spam on various subjects these days myself...many of which are from porn sites. The ones especially annoying are those offering a product to help me extend my penis length up the three inches. Hell, it's already dragging around the block as it is.

It doesn't take but less than a minute to delete these unwanted mails from your inbox. Unfortunately, the adult industry has little business ethics or you would be able to press the reply button and write "unsubscribe" and get your name off these lists. Most of them, however, don't even come from legitimate email addresses.

I'm afraid the best way to have prevented all this is to have chosen a different ex. However, it's too late now...my friend! The only other way is to change your email address and tell all your friends...and NOT your ex.

Also, be assured that this forum does not in any way sell or otherwise barter or convey email addresses to anyone.

:D here's what I do (and mind you, my job is at a church office, where I definitely DON'T need to be finding porn-crap in my mailbox!) ...

-- go into your account and find the mail display setting

-- click onto "full headers," which gives information about where the mail generates from

-- in the header, look at the last "received:" notation to find out the dot-com it originated from

(it'll look like "[email protected]")

-- forward a complete copy of the message (including the full header) to "[email protected]"

(I also send copies to the provider listed after the sender's name for good measure)

you'll get e-mail back from the dot-com providing service; often times, you can get that person bumped from their account, because they've violated the terms of agreement by sending that kind of mail using the company's service.

If you don't have luck going this route, just contact the webmaster at the dot.com from which the message originated. I don't think those folks would be too happy to learn that someone's abusing their system and will take appropriate measures.

your ex sounds like a real witch, and probably won't stop at just sending you unwanted mail.
