Bringing mum to comedy gig? Is this weird?

Recommended Posts

I really want to go see my favourite comedian tonight as he is playing at a venue near me but none of my mates are available. The only person that will go with me is my mum but will it look weird or pathetic bringing my mum to a bar to see a comedy gig? I know I sound really shallow but I am not used to socialising and very self conscious

Nope! Its nice that you want to spend time with her. In what ways will it matter what others think?

Not at all. I often take my mum out. Pub, shows etc..

Even taken her to football a few times.

I enjoyed my parents' company & socialized with them often. My only concerns here are 1). will you be OK around your mom if the comedian is raunchy? and 2). do not let the comedian know she's your mom or you will become the subject of the jokes. Other than that, go & have fun.

I have taken my mom to comedy clubs, concerts, cultural festivals, and even a drag queen show. She always has a blast and no one thinks it was weird that I'm hanging out with her. If your mom will have a good time and she wants to go then go for it. This will be one of those cool things you'll remember when she's no longer here.

Sounds lovely. Do it.

I had a new acquaintance the other day urge me very strongly to make the most of my mom while I still have her as his ended her life last year and he misses her every day. I didn't mention my own mom died four years ago and that I'd give anything in the world to spend time with her again.

Go for it. Trust me, most moms who've spent years wiping your arse, feeding you, clothing you, going without for you to have everything, the small act of their adult kid taking them out somewhere for a meal or to see a show means the absolute world. Parenting is a thankless task at times. Be proud to be taking her out, I would be if I could!
