Husband's distant relative criticizing my job and career path

Unfortunately, I was laid off from my first job when my husband was visiting his Uncles and had to come get me. Much later in the day, one of his Uncles sent a message on facebook asking if everything was okay. I responded, thankful for his concern. He asked me a few questions about what happened and I told him that I had prospects for full time at my other job I just started. Then what he said next shocked me...he asked me if I'm going to continue working "crappy no career jobs" in his own words. Um, excuse me? This is someone whom I've only met a few times and we've barely spoken otherwise. He also isn't close to my husband. Apparently he does have a drinking issue and has a tendency to go off on people according to his brother. I could hardly consider working at a corporate office to be a crappy no career job. After criticizing me, he decided he was tired and didn't want to send any more messages until later this weekend. I decided to remove him from my friends list and exit the conversation. Seriously, I have no tolerance for people like that. My husband didn't say much, but he was surprised by his Uncle's behavior.

Wow, Pink Sugar! Nice uncle...

Too bad we can't pick our families, you know? I'd steer clear of this guy in any way, shape or form. He does remind me of my alcoholic father in the sense that he way overstepped his boundaries with a cheap shot that hardly makes any sense. These people usually scare off everyone in sight and end up alone but at least then, they put down people on their TV who can't hear them. :D

Water off a ducks back....

Totally ignore his butt.. If he has a drinking issue then that is where his Self Centeredness is coming from.

By the way.. sorry about you job loss.. another is right around the corner.

Years ago my own father, gave me a bit of grief over being between jobs (I had 2 young children too) he was critical of me applying for sales jobs and told me he'd never employ me...blah..blah....you should just go pump gas....whatever you need to do to feed your family. I told him I might just become a prostitute because the money was good and I enjoyed sex.:D

He didn't talk to me for a month, but he's never critisized my job prospects again. I did end up with a much better job than I'd been looking for though just a week later.

Don't let old uncle loser boozer get you down, gee's if you take any advice from him you may end up as miserable, condescending and bitter as him.

Thanks guys. I'm glad this isn't a close relative or anything. I just deleted off facebook and moved on. If my husband wishes to visit him should his uncle visit again anytime soon, he can go without me. The funny thing is that this Uncle told him we should go to Arizona and visit him...no thanks.

Yeah, I'm really sorry to hear about your job loss. You seem like a hard worker and the type who will do well at the next opportunity given. Possibly getting full time work at your current part time job. Fingers crossed!

That was an awful thing of your husbands uncle to say.... I mean, you are out workin:bunny:g, you have a degree and you have worked hard to find jobs.. I don't understand why anyone would find what your doing to be anything less than highly respectable.

No career roles? I mean okay, I understand why fast food and low level retail assistant roles are not exactly known for their sparkling career perks and longevity. But corporate work? Since when do people make such a statement that undermines the corporate world and those that help sustain it?

I mean wow.. I have never told long term waitresses that their career is dead end because, low and behold, some of them work at very exclusive venues and get paid as much as office workers and various other reasonably paid professions.

This is actually the first time I've heard of anyone speak lowly of corporate jobs situated within an office setting. I mean.....a no career job?

Lol who is this man! Is he a specialist doctor with 16 years worth of study after he graduated year 12?

Don't let this bug you. The guy isn't in your daily life. He should have no affect on you and your life, what you do or don't do!

Is he an uncle or a distant relative? Or do you mean distance (lives far away from you both)?

Thanks. :) I am working more at my other job and it's probably for the best since towards the end at my other job I was addressing envelopes. It was an easy $15 an hour, but didn't really help my skills or resume. I only make a tad less at my new job, but I can telecommute, possibility for full time and benefits and I'm getting valuable experience that helps my career goals. In his words, he is a "bug wig working for the VA for the government". Funny thing is, he was a high school drop out and screwed around for years before getting his job. It was pretty insulting that he had the call to imply I am screwing around and don't know what I want in life. He doesn't even know me!

Both. He is an Uncle, but my husband's mother's family was never really close-knit so we've only seen him a handful of times.
