Very few women online in my area

Recommended Posts

I live in the LA area, and whether I go on match or okcupid there's usually only like 15-30 online at most. Sometimes even as low as like 6 regardless of the time.

I remember in the past there were way more people on these sites.

Did everyone move over to a different site or is online dating done for?

I didn't do OLD long enough to know how it used to be like. It seems people have had enough of the bad experiences. I also live in LA and people are meeting in person just fine. You just have to go out, anywhere, not stay home. In small towns I can see why you might do online dating.

If you live in the LA area there should be plenty of in real life options for meeting people. Try that instead.

It may also be the site you're on. It's hard to believe that out of millions of people you can only find 30 on line at any given time.

That seems really strange for such a highly populated area.

Yeah I guess people just gave up on it. Do you guys have any ideas where I could meet people?

The first thing that comes to my mind is meetup groups, but maybe there's better ideas.

I run a Meetup group in metro Detroit. Its a great way to meet new people but you have to be dedicated

There are lots of ways to meet new people:

1. Meet up groups, as you already know

2. Niche singles events. I went to one called Leashes & Lovers where you could bring your pet. (I suppose they could have one for a kink fetish but that wasn't my scene. lol  ) There was another one I thought was cool where they paired you up to play golf: 2 single men & 2 single women.

3. Volunteer somewhere doing something you are passionate about: save the whales; clean oceans, fighting disease, help / rescue animals, supporting the arts . . . whatever floats your boat. You will find like minded people

4. Work on a political campaign or protest something

5. Get involved with the alumni associations where you went to school

6. Join a civic organization like the Elks, the Moose, the Lions, the Kiwanians, the volunteer fire department

7. Take or teach an adult continuing education not for credit class like ballroom dance, cooking, golf, investing, etc.

8. Go speed dating

9. play on a co-ed sports team

10. Go to work related mixers like Chamber of Commerce events & business card exchanges; or continuing education courses in your field.

11. Go to trivia night at your local watering hole

12. Tell everybody you know including your parents & their friends that you are open to being fixed up

I've never been to a meetup. I meet people just on the beach, at eateries, sports, grocers, concerts, events, any public place is possible. I even met someone last Nov's election at the polling place and went out with him a couple of times. (Very convenient that he lived, of course, nearby.)

You live in LA, you know that (at least in certain areas) here, it's not weird to talk to strangers. Can you try to meet some neighbors? You gotta appreciate dating someone nearby, because LA traffic can kill relationships.

... because LA traffic can kill relationships.

i live in LA for a year back in 2000. I remember one Sat night i was coming back home from a party and it was 4am. The freeways had a traffic jam and i sat in traffic for 2+ hours. Didn't make it home until around 6am
