Have you ever referenced a opposite sex friend as “my baby”

Recommended Posts

No... and I have a lot of opposite sex friends.

But I’m not inappropriate with them.

Something tells me inappropriate is involved in this story.

If I’m referring to anyone but my kids as “my baby” I likely have had sex with them.

I’d like to know the back story. For about five years, my husband texted his ex-sister-in-law daily with little sweet nothings, referring to each other as “baby” and “sweetie” with little heart and flower emojis (he probably still does, but he’s not my problem anymore.) When I complained, stating that he would not accept it if I communicated with another man in that manner, I was told I was jealous, paranoid, etc. I reserve those pet names for my significant other and expect him to do the same.

vla1120, okay I know people on these boards may not agree on much but I think everyone would agree...that is just plain weird!!!!!!

*I took away one exclamation point, but left the others on purpose

I agree with preraph that "poor baby" could be acceptable in a one-off use when something goes wrong. But it's not appropriate in terms of a greeting.

So I’ve been in the US for over 10 years and I still don’t get what kind of vibe “my baby” and “baby” give. Is it cute? sexy? or just affectionate? Lost in translation every time I hear this. Help.

When I was in my thirties a man, acquaintance, in my church used to call me "baby" sometimes. I was married and I disliked him for it but since he was older and supposedly a very accomplished man and because it was in church I never said anything back to him when he said it. It didn't happen often because I tried to stay away from him. As he aged and his wife died I felt sorry for him and felt that he may be mellowing out so accepted a lunch invitation from him, knowing he'd invited about eight or ten others to a private dinner club.

There were some lovely people at lunch with us that day and he made a remark about how sexy I looked in my tight clothes at church. I did not wear tight or sexy clothing to church. I felt extremely humiliated that he would say that and you could have heard a pin drop when he said it. I believe everyone was grossed out about the comment.

No!

And I have many very dear friends that are opposite sex.

If they called me their baby I would seriously wonder what was wrong with them.
