Why skype?

Recommended Posts

I get chatting to guys on a dating site and they nearly always ask to chat on skype. I can sort of understand that they might want to verify you are you who you say you are but don't really understand why they want to continue with skype.

For example, I got chatting to a guy through a social site (not dating) and he is abroad (too far to date and he's separated likely to divorce so not even ready for dating). We chatted one evening on skype, just normal chat. Now he keeps asking to chat on skype. He's been very decent so I don't think he's looking for anything sleazy but I can't understand why he wants to chat face to face. It's not as if a relationship of any kind could develop.

I'm beginning to think I should avoid further chats because I don't understand what he wants.

Can any guys explain why this keeps happening? I find it quite intrusive to talk face to face all the time.

I don't get it. I don't like skype either. I've had quite a few women suggest it and I tell them I'd rather talk on the phone. They usually accept. I just think it's weird. I feel self-conscious on skype, but not on the phone.

Asking why he wants to chat on skype is like asking why someone would like to talk face to face instead of morse code.

I've asked myself the very same question!!!

For me, at least, it seems as if someone wants to do Skype because they don't want to give me their phone number. Which I see as a big huge red flag. Also, a couple men have tried to initiate phone/video sex. Which I end and block immediately!!!

I will no longer be using Skype. If a man does not want to give me his phone number and have a regular conversation; he is not the man for me!!!!

Good luck my friend!!!!

I can see the point, I suppose, if someone wants to develop a romantic relationship, but just to look at you? No, I don't understand it.

I don't understand though, why is someone wanting to skype such a bad creepy thing? Texting is extremely boring and unnatural.

I suppose it depends what the relationship is but if it just friends why does the guy need to look at the woman all the time while talking?

If you had experienced a creepy guy trying to show you his **** when you trusted that he just wanted to chat, you would realise why women tend to think it is creepy when a guy asks to chat on skype. Sadly, some guys just can't be trusted to be respectful.

On the face of it, surely face to face ... as in real life conversation is the best?

Yet I agree, there is something about skype or any video chat that makes me uncomfortable and I cant put my finger on what that might be. IRL I'm happy to meet and greet and talk and interact ... surely Skype is the same? Yet it isn't...

Because it's free, convenient, and you can interact with people all over the world.

Trust me, you're always going to get all kinds of weird sheet when you're dealing with people long distance. I'd advise staying away from that.

Well, gf and l always did but we were long distance 2/3long of the time so it was as close as we could get to real a lot of the time.

But as far as people in general or dates or whatever ,forget it.

l could understand once just to tie you over until you met and to get a better idea of each other if there was too much distance to meet anytime soon , but after that , forget it. l'd rather wait to meet and just phone or whatever meantime.

But l guess for sure some will be hoping for some live hanky hanky. Seems to be the thing these days.

Weird though, l've even had just friends say, ask to skype instead of just a normal call and l always think wtf , what's the point , and like l wanna sit there on display to just anyone all the time it's bullsh@t.

Same here. I find Skype awkward.

I prefer the phone and I can sense *a lot* from a man's voice.

I'm more an "auditory" vs. "visually" oriented person though, so perhaps that's why.

I also love e-mail. Texting, not so much.

I've had some pretty substantial convos via email.

This is when long distance.

When local, I much prefer in person!

Well, that little camera is positioned to look right up your nostrils... and if you haven't trimmed your nose hair in a week... not to mention, I consider the inside of my sinuses personal space.

Why won't you show the real you on skype. Do yo uhave something to hide? I use Skype to talk to women, I have nothing to hide. I see nothing wrong using a stable software like Skype vs Hangout, Facebook Voice/Video Chat. Whatsapp etc.. You have to chat with them to get to know them. I like to talk on the cell but some can't do that. Text bandit I am not doing that. Skype you can tell your story to the guy you want in your case for me the women get to see who and what I am all about!

Personally, I prefer Skype (with or without video) over cell phone calls. The audio quality comparison is night and day. I also get to use my really good headset, which is more conducive to long conversations.

She never said this.

I have never Skyped with a stranger. Not sure if I ever would. I only do it with my sister and niece/nephew.

If a stranger or potential date asked me to Skype I'd need time to get ready for that. I work from home, alone, and I'm usually in workout clothes looking pretty rough! ;) That would be my biggest reason for not wanting to do it!

This man is probably just lonely.

Skype is good for international chatting, with or without using the video feature. I do use Skype but no video.

No, I don't have anything to hide. I chatted to a guy on skype for over an hour one evening. The next time he wanted to chat on skype again. I didn't feel the need to video chat each time.

Guys contact me online and want to use skype from the start. All they are interested in is looks. All their talk is about looks, pictures, skype. It is boring actually, they have nothing to say for themselves. I would never chat with guys like that on skype, only a person I feel is truly interested in me, not just pics.

What guy is wanting to be just friends? They want to see what you look like. If they think you're hot enough then they want to be more than friends. I think everyone should Skype once before meeting for the first time because of how many catfish there are and people just putting up old photos, etc. Once youdo it once if you don't feel like putting on your makeup just to have a conversation then tell them that.

...why can't people just meet? I have no idea why anyone would skype when you could just go out on a date.
