I wouldn't date me

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to figure out if there is any solution to this and am looking for some guidance...I'm approaching 30 (male), and securing and even locking in a relationship is quite a challenge as I get older. Most of it is due to my career, so I'm not sure if there is any solution :/

So since high school I've had to move roughly 5 times between college and my career (I'm a pilot). Because I've had to move so much, I never really had a chance to build any strong friendships (I have one friend to this day), and every relationship I've ever been in fell apart because I would have to move, or because the person I was dating at the time thought I was gone too much (usually gone 15-18 days a month traveling). Because of the frequent moving, being around family is non existent besides the holidays also.

I did a lot of reflection yesterday, and feel that this career has been extremely isolating, and has ruined every relationship I've ever had. I'm at the point where I have no one to hang out with, hardly anyone to talk to, all I do is go to the gym then come home to sit on the couch on my off time, or drink because I'm so bored. I want to jump into dating so bad but again, I have to move...for the 6th time. Luckily this next move will be back to my hometown where my family is but have zero friends there, and even then I have to spend 6 months in another city for training before I move back. Even if I do decide to date again, I have nothing exciting to talk about besides the TV show I just watched or the jet I flew, while they have their friends and family to talk about. I guess I feel like I have no substance anymore, and have let myself become extremely boring. They may as well go date a pet rock lol.

Sorry for the vent post. Anyone else in a demanding occupation that kills any sort of chance at dating someone or making friends? Just trying to sort myself out because I don't like feeling so lame.

Sounds like you need a wingman. I'm a guy, come pick me up in the jet. And we shall cruise the streets.

Sounds like you need to fly commercial and date flight attendants! I went from retail which was great socially to not retail where I mostly met people passing through, and it was fun in its own way, but I missed the more developed local friendships.
