LostInLA Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I'm waiting for my guy to say this word to me. We've been dating for 4 months, so I know it is probably early. So just a little poll, how long until you said it? I can't remember how long it took in my previous relationships lol...they were so long ago. And the reason I'm waiting is because I'd like to know it is coming from him and it isn't being prompted just cuz I'm saying it. And yes, I think I'm feeling it, but I think waiting is best in this situation since he has wanted to take things slow. Is it possible to feel it from him already though? lol
bobdole Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Anywhere from 1 month to 3 months or so. I've historical rushed into things and go for the rushing into things type of girl though. Trying to not do that this time...
Author LostInLA Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 He wants to try a new approach as he as always rushed things in the past. I'm taking this new approach as a compliment, meaning he wants things to work out for us...but I'm so used to rushing, it's hard to be patient sometimes lol.
tami-chan Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I say when I "feel" it....but I found out that THAT is quite irresponsible as some people do hold you to it. I wish things aren't these complicated and we are "allowed" to express "good" feelings anytime.
runner Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 if you feel it coming but think it might be a bit too soon, try using the other L word to start with ... "i really like you," etc.
Eeyore79 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 To me, if someone says "I like you", it effectively means "I don't love you". I would rather someone just said nothing at all, rather than rubbing my nose in the fact that "like" is all they feel for me.

Whether he feels more for me or not is irrelevant. We can't over-analyze everything.
Author LostInLA Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 We have said we like each other. <3 But I think I said it first. He's not verbally expressive about his feelings so I think it will be quite some time before he says the L word.
spookie Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I've been waiting for my bf to say it for the past 2 months of our 8 month R.

Is it possible to feel it from him already though? lol Yes, but whatever you do, let it be his idea to say it. It may be hard--perhaps really hard to wait, but it ruins it for the guy (or the girl if roles were reversed) to have the chance for total self-expression be instead coerced. My second LTR was that way about getting flowers from me. She made remarks and I would reciprocate by acquiescing and buying her flowers but it was not only not the good feeling of it being my idea to really express my happiness with her, often she more deserved a boot in the azz for some of her neurotic episode she just put me through and surely did nothing to earn flowers. I began to hate that flower shi+ and eventually her.
Ruby Slippers Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 If a guy didn't say it within about 4-6 months, I'd start to lose interest. This hasn't happened yet, so I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure. I have always let the guy say it first, and I most likely always will.

I've yet to receive flowers though. I did get a card with a sweet note in it for my birthday. I wasn't expecting anything, as he is working a couple of side jobs while looking for work. I hope he will get me flowers sometime though!
meerkat stew Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 WOW! you sound so much like Jack Jones! Was going for Joe Piscopo doing Frank Sinatra, but Jack Jones will do nicely, thanks. "thumb!" "bruce springstein" if anyone knows where i can find this entire skit, please do tell.

I have always let the guy say it first, and I most likely always will. My view is about the same as this. But, no, that hasn't happened to me either. I've always let the fellow say it first. I don't believe in coaxing someone to say or do expressive things, like this. The whole, "Why won't you tell me you love me?" conversation seems so 15 year old girl to me.
Shakz Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I don't think I've ever said it. I've said stuff like "you know what I love about you...," "I love it when you...," but never a flat-out "I love you." Truth be told, I only love me.
Author LostInLA Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 Oh yah I just remembered. Last weekend I was massaging his arm - yes his ARM - and he said, my arm loves you! Jokingly I replied, just your arm? Hopefully he took that as a hint.
