threebyfate Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Yup, just put my husband's favourite into my avatar. Little black dress with leopard skin peep-toed platform slingbacks. It usually gets me a few extra looks.
USMCHokie Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I love to dress. I think I've gotten the most attention when wearing this navy blue lightly pin striped Pierre Cardin doulble breasted suit with pleated trousers and cuffs. I'd wear a two-toned pink buttoned-down shirt with white collar and a complomentary Fendi tie that sizzled. Maroon Italian shoes and maroon belt. No women whistled but I got double takes, called hunk, got smiles, got asked for a lot of directions by young ladies who probably didn't need them, I overheard a comment from one woman on the NYC subway to another in which she said "now THAT's the way a man should look". What an ego boost to hear that. A man who can rock a double-breasted suit is one to be respected. Bravo, my friend.
angielove Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I LOVE a man in a suit!!! Whenever I go clubbing, I wear the tinniest little dresses and huge heels (just because I couldn't get away with wearing that anywhere else ) and I hardly ever get stares/compliments. I get the most stares/compliments when I'm filling in for a manager at work and have to wear a collared dress shirt, high waisted black skirt, black tights and black boots. And when I'm at the local pub in my daggiest clothes (eg. old jeans and t-shirt or long hippy skirt and singlet top) I get a bit of attention too. Which is weird to me, because when I try my best to dress up I get the least stares/compliments!!!?

zengirl Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 (edited) I can dig a man in a suit sometimes, though it depends where. I don't like it when men appear vastly overdressed. I really like a good jacket, though. Or a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, like he's been actually working on something for 10 hours at the office (think Rob Lowe in many episodes of the West Wing; I remember him rolling his sleeves up that way). But then I kind of dig over-educated workaholics so long as they're passionate about what they do. Really, some men look better dressed up and others look better in smart casual, though. I like men with interesting shoes (usually like a sneaker collection. . . I don't know all the brands, as Korea has killed my brain for that, but like indie-hipster-colorful-sneakers). I honestly feel like I get the most attention when I'm dressed "classy", for example, a form fitting, but not revealing, dress; or work clothes consisting of a pencil skirt and dress shirt. It's less obscene attention too, for example, someone on the street might say, "you look gorgeous today," as opposed to cat-calling. Yes. This is why I try to dress cute/alluring but not really "sexy" really. Bandage skirts seem to be winners too. Of course, I don't want loads of attention; it's more important it be the right kind of attention, to me any how. Me and a lot of guys like those cut off jean shorts that go halfway up the thigh for the summer time, (that a lot of women wear). Like these, and similar ones. Mini skirts are also a plus. Basically, just be a tease with class. This gets guys hot and bothered the most. Because (being honest here) I'm going to focus my attention first on the woman with the shorts and nice fitting shirts, than the lady with jeans and a long sleeve shirt. Cut off jean shorts!!!! And "classy" in the same post? There is nothing I can think of that is less classy than cut-offs, except maybe a halter top. I'm sure both would attract attention, of course, but what kind? Blade Runner Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 (edited) My whole wardrobe is vintage/handmade/weird. I like it that way. It's got me some good attention, but I also suspect a lot of people assume that I'm gay or something. (The only WTF looks I ever get come from guys with short hair-gelled spiked up hair with t shirts showing their "rippling" muscles!) I don't own any sneakers, it's all 60's, 70's, shoes and boots, and they always get some "WTF" looks but I love it. What's hilarious to me is I've been dressing this way for a while, sometimes I get weird looks, then something I wear a lot will come back in fashion for a few months and the looks will dissapear, then it's back again. Awesome. I try and keep it simple, though. If I'm gonna wear a waistcoat, it's not gonna be the shiny department store one they charge you $100 for so you can look like an indie kid, you go look for one that an 80 year old gentleman donated to the second hand store. It's simple, isn't shiny and "look at me", and it has a little wear to it. I like that kind of stuff. Simple, and does the job. It's also about $5. Either way, a lot of women have complimented my dress style. It's been fun. It took me a while to figure out a way to make it all work, initially I wore some weird stuff but finally managed to settle down into a style that looks natural, doesn't stick out in an odd way, and doesn't throw me in with the hipster-flavour-of-the-monthers. Best of all, a lot of it is 2nd hand and therefore is very, very cheap! The best suit jacket I own cost me $3. I have a few expensive ones but they just don't compare to the elegance of my $3 number. It even came with a lighter, a wallet, and some cards advertising dental care in the 70's. Brilliant. The best looks I get is when I put on a vintage suit, get my black raybans on, cary my 50's doctors bag and walk proudly down the street in my pointy shoes. Hell yeah. That's what I do when I'm feeling like the king of the world. Edited August 4, 2010 by Blade Runner
Sphere Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Why do people underestimate the power of the ass? I agree, there is nothing better than nice ass in a tight pair of jeans.
melodymatters Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I'm blonde and I would say I recieve twice as much attention with my hair long, as I did when it was shoulder length. Add a dress and we gain more attention points. Make that dress red and Voila !
phineas Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I've dropped 50 lbs. & packed on some good muscle. Nothing I owned up until 2 months ago fit me anymore. Even my shirts were baggy. I have a female friend that has helped me with some new clothes & I gotta say, I do look good. Enough so that when I go to parties people who know me don't even recognize me because I now have a sense of style & I take up less space than they remember. LOL! Last night I was in a rush to get to the store before it closed so I grabbed some white & blue plaid shorts & a yellow tank top. It matched, but man you could see me from a mile out. I stopped off at a bar to meet some friends & I noticed I got the ladies attention.

I don't think they made clothes back in THE DAY for people my size. Heck most mall's in the store don't have clothes for people my size.
2sure Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 For me, men give me more attention when I dont have my contacts in. My friends tell me its because I get a slightly vague look when I'm not wearing them. I'm not focusing. Or maybe its because I dont notice they are looking so I dont break eye contact..because I dont know I'm doing it. Or because I dont realize they are a complete stranger until they are close enough to talk to. I agree its odd.
USMCHokie Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Yep...for men, the best thing you can possibly do to improve your style is to get clothes that FIT...it doesn't matter your body type, height, weight, or whatever...getting clothes that fit you will make you stand out from the masses who don't pay the same attention...

I've began to do that starting this summer actually, and it definitely does make a difference. I guess I just never really took the time to think about how clothes that fit may look on me. Never the less, I'm definitely surprised at the difference.
Shakz Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I noticed this one hottie kept checking out my ass. I was wearing my chinos and wife-beater at the time. Well, she finally saunters up cool as you please, and I'm thinking "Okay, here it comes." Sure enough, in a silky, sultry voice she says, "Hey buddy, you sat in gum"!

Now that's subtly checking out your ass! Lucky for her there was gum on your chair!!
Shakz Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Now that's subtly checking out your ass! Lucky for her there was gum on your chair!! That's what I thought at first but I reached back and sure enough, warm sticky gum. Now it was on my hand. She laughed one of those horrible, mocking chick laughs and strolled off. I died a little inside.

I couldn't agree more. I once suggested someone here get their clothes tailored so they fit perfectly, as I do, and I was chastized and it was suggested I must be some weird deformed beast if I have to get my clothes tailored. It's all about looking like you're comfortable in your own skin, and having clothes that fit and carrying yourself with confidence will get you looks no matter WHAT you're wearing. That said, I get the most looks when I'm in shorts and heels or a black pant suit.

I have my female friend in retail to thank for this. I simply will not fit into a size L shirt without looking like a minature professional wrestler. LOL! I do have a few L white T's to wear under stuff but their just too snug to wear in public. So XL it is. Except XL is all over the board. I have a bunch of XL Izod brand polo shirts & their baggy as hell. They look like tents on me as I try to tuck them into my pants for work. But, XL from my friends store FIT me perfectly. They show off the fact I work out without being d-bag tight. Their tappered at the waist also unlike most department store clothes.
Kamille Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Fit? All depends. I have a pair of baggy pants that get me a lot of attention. I think it's because they accentuate my waist to hip ratio... I have a small waist and a, hmm, rounder lower body. But I agree, for me the biggest predictor of whether or not I get attention is my mood. If I'm in a good mood, more men seem to glance at me or approach me. If I'm wearing something that I'm not comfortable in, less men approach me.
anne1707 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 A figure skimming dress, stockings, killer heels and a confident attitude

Well, fit doesn't always mean skin-conforming...it means that the clothing is sized and cut in a way that most flatters the person's figure...so in this case your pants accentuate your body features in a positive way...
SadandConfusedWA Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I am curvy, so I often feel like wearing jeans looks better on thin girls and I don't wear them anymore. I get the most attention in short dresses and skirts with heels or boots. I love my legs as they are quite toned and long (being 5'8-5'9' tall). All the exercise that I love doing involves using leg muscles, so I sometimes worry that my legs are too muscly. Showing any cleavege works well too (have a huge chest) but makes me feel too icky. Being a blonde, anything that's red and black complements me best. I am huge on stlye/fashion/clothes shopping so I know what fits me.
Feanor23x Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I'm somewhat thin (5'7", 145lbs), and I tend to wear athletic fit t-shirts. My current GF noticed my biceps on our first date, and I caught her blushing quite a few times. I also have a form fitting black button down shirt that I wear when I go out, and I have noticed that I get more than a few looks from the ladies..
