habeebti Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I've been lurking for about 6 months now, and finally decided to seek y'alls advice/thoughts on my current interest. I'm crushing on a guy from a very conservative Arab country who is studying here -- and I just really can't tell if he is interested or simply exceptionally polite. So, the abbreviated version -- we met in class. He went out of his way to help me study and even made dinner one night (traditional arabic food). I'm taking the next level of the class (he's not) but he continues to offer to help me, and we've even met once for coffee/studying (where I embarrassingly forgot my wallet in my car and he had to pay) -- which was more talking than studying and lasted several hours. We talk/text on a somewhat regular basis -- and recently when he lost his phone he went through the trouble of asking someone else for my email address in order to find me to get my phone number again. I hadn't contacted him in a couple of days and he was leaving the area unexpectedly for a couple of months and he wanted to talk to me before he left. I'm happy to provide more details if you are interested -- but didn't want to bore you. I think I'd have a better sense of where I stood if he were American, but the cultural differences are throwing me off. So, is he possibily interested, or just ridiculously helpful and well mannered? Thoughts?

I guess I'm confused because he's never so much as hinted at making any sort of move -- and once, he said I was "a really good friend, like a sister" though that could have been a language issue. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens when he comes back.
