jw90063 Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) This guy I dated for about a year, we broke up this past summer. He got back in contact with me a couple of months ago in which seemed like he wanted to patch things up. Well we talked a bit, but things did not really progress. We haven't really talked since. I still seem to have some feelings for him. Anyways, I still from time to time get curious what he is up to. This past week I managed to find something out while I was online. He supposedly has "Up and moved" to freaking Australia. I have no idea why he would do this. It makes no sense. He was temporarily having to live at home, and started back in school this fall. Wasn't financially stable in the least either. I know I should not care, but I just can't help wondering why he would move there. He has lived in other places before like Cali, New York in the past, but nothing out of state. He was in the military years ago, and had talked about joining the reserves part time this past year. As far as I know, he hasn't been in the reserves though. I just thought he was in school. I guess its possible he got deployed there? Is it possible to get deployed to Australia? LOL I know he does a lot of online dating stuff, or has in the past. I wonder if he is crazy enough to have met someone online and picked up and moved. Maybe he has a friend there...a guy friend that is, and moved. God, why is this bothering me so much. It's just totally weird if you ask me. It does make me feel bad for some reason. I know I shouldn't really care at this point, but was just soooo surprised to find this out, and it is questionable. Why would a guy move to Australia of all places or that far away??? All his family and friends that I know of are here. Apparently it was a sudden move. Weird or not? Edited December 3, 2009 by jw90063
Art_Critic Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 It makes no sense. Thats only to you.. to him I'm sure it does.. First off.. Are you sure you have the right guy ? Since he now lives in another country.. why not email him and ask him what's up ? You were in contact with him so all would be good...
Author jw90063 Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Thats only to you.. to him I'm sure it does.. First off.. Are you sure you have the right guy ? Since he now lives in another country.. why not email him and ask him what's up ? You were in contact with him so all would be good... Well we are not really talking at all right now. The last time we spoke it didn't go too well. I would feel strange asking him out of the blue. I am pretty sure its him. I found out, because his sister had a picture up online. It was of his couch. The caption said" my brother just up and moved to Australia, so I bought his couch". She only has one brother, and it was his couch. I told my family about this, and they think it sounds rather strange too. I just wanted more opinions. It's just one of those things that is so unbelievable. As I said, I really shouldn't care, but we were just talking not too long ago, and he has supposedly moved. Of all places Australia.
threebyfate Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Australia has a lot of opportunities and a good economy since they took immediate steps to mitigate, when other western nations dilly-dallied over taking measures to stymy economic collapse. Also, Australia has a strong export relationship with many Asian nations, so aren't as reliant as other western nations, on the U.S. Add to it that they have a similar western culture to North America and some wonderfully exotic locations/sights to see and you have to ask yourself "why not", rather than "why".

Hmm. Well, as I said he wasn't well off financially and wasn't working the best job. In a way, I wouldn't think so much of it, but he had just started classes at school this fall. So I'm thinking, why would he quit school and make a move so drastic in the middle of everything else. I see what you are saying though, and yes maybe more opportunities and better economy. That makes a little more sense. Perhaps, he just said screw it all here, and packed and moved away. After all the economy isn't too great and not the best of job opportunities. I don't see how he had enough savings to move though.
threebyfate Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Maybe he wanted to live like crocodile dundeeNah, it's all about the walk-about!
Art_Critic Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I don't see how he had enough savings to move though. He did sell his couch All it takes to move is a ticket... it sounds like he sold all his furniture..
Author jw90063 Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 He did sell his couch All it takes to move is a ticket... it sounds like he sold all his furniture.. Well obviously someone else is providing him with a place to stay that is furnished. He never mentioned any friends there or anything about Australia.
Enema Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Plenty of US soldiers come here on duty btw. We teach them, as they're generally terrible.
jerseyboy Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Kangaroos are hot!! I said it, but every other guy was thinking it. A little lipstick, some hoop earrings. They all know what IM talking about
norajane Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 God, why is this bothering me so much. Because: I still seem to have some feelings for him.And with him in Australia, there's really no chance of you getting back together. People up and move all the time, especially if they don't really have much going on where they are. We are the most mobile society ever. And Australia is an awesome place.
Author jw90063 Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Plenty of US soldiers come here on duty btw. We teach them, as they're generally terrible. Well now that I think about it, maybe he is currently in the reserves. He was telling me how it would pay for a majority of his school. I don't know if he would have even taken any classes, unless he was in the reserves as well. So, I guess that is a possibility, he was deployed there. Just sounded more like a "he decided" thing. Knowing he is that far away now, I do think its hitting me more so that it's definitely over. Its funny how before, I didn't really seem to care, but now I do more so. It is common for people to up and move, but I've never known anyone personally to make such a drastic move out of no where.
