Ok, I took the internet dating plunge last week. I went through all those bizarre questions, did some emailing, after a few IM chatting sessions, I hoped to heck the guy wasn't a psycho stalker killer and handed over my phone number.

We've talked on the phone twice. He doesn't SEEM like he's going to hack me up into small bits. I googled him a lot to make sure he at least did the things he said he did (so far it's all good. No psycho stalker killer. Check.)

I chased my roommate around trying on every dress I own to pick out a cute one for tomorrow night. Clothing. check.

I called to verify the time and restaurant for tomorrow. Plans, check.

I'm SO nervous! I've never done internet dating or been on a blind date EVER! Cross your fingers LS! I'm taking my love life into my own hands! muahahahaha (Although it would be weird to totally hit it off with the first match, right? or not? what do you think?)

Any suggestions for topics of conversation. Are there any strange internet dating rules I need to know about? (other than meet in a public place and tell someone where I'm going?)

Don't talk about facebook or any other obsessive Internet tendencies you might have. ;)

Expect nothing.

Order a drink. If you must order food, just order an appy because it is cheaper and will come faster.

That way you can bail quickly, or "keep him wanting more" and leave after an hour.

You have to take control, or else they just keep trying to buy you drinks to get your drunk (sorry to all the nice guys out there - but we're talking internet dating, ie war - she needs a strategy).

Last internet date I went on - he turned jealous/obsessive within 24 hours.

Don't get into a car with him and don't let him get in your car.

But good luck.

Just to add. Don't expect anything to come out of it. I'll admit on my first internet date we had talked and he seemed like he had potential. In the first 60 seconds I knew that he didn't.

And since it's internet dating you can be fed, watered, back home at your computer eating chocolate and choosing another POW before the day is done.

It's like 24 hour shopping! I love it!

Of course us women need a strategy. We're the b-tches, so to distract you helpless men while we assess your worth as prey, we use our perky boobs to bring you to your knees.

Yes, it is war.

Sorry.

Watch your drink - you don't know this guy and I'm sure if you were "taken ill" he'd "take you home" without the restaurant staff objecting. I once had an experience where I'm convinced a guy put something in my drink - he'd only bought me a couple of drinks before I was outside puking on the grass. Ideally choose a clear drink like white wine - they often add dye to these drugs nowadays to prevent them being misused, so you'll see the dye easier in a clear drink. Don't leave your drink unattended, and tell someone what time you expect to be home, maybe even arrange to call at a certain time to confirm you're ok.

Yikes!!!! and YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!

And yeah....POW #2 already lined up. If it's going to be tragic, then I might as well go all out, right?

Do I pay for myself on the first date if it's internet dating?

Bring cash.

Remember the internet dating rule of thumb: be prepared to bail on a moment's notice.

So to facilitate paying the bill, have cash on you.

They usually pay to be honest.

Now I've always done the meet for coffee or go for a walk around the lake. We do have a beautiful lake and there is a really fun coffee shop nearby too.

And if I don't like them I just monopolize the conversation and make the subject 'all about me.' I find talking about yourself for a couple of hours to be an enjoyable way to while away an otherwise boring date.

Water?

lame.

Order a drink with pink in it. Men love it. Often I'll order the bellini and pretend I'm a demure nice girl while I assess the prey.

Don't get ice. If your nervous and your hands are shaking the chinking of the ice will only draw attention to it.

Oh my sweet, this is so fun. It's like a rite of passage. Once you have gone through the initiation you will become on of us. An internet dater.

What do you mean a little wierd?

just different from you, or are your spidey senses tingling?

It's like ripping of a band-aid. Do it, get it done and come back and post what a disaster it was. This is the world of internet dating and it's hilarious fun!!!

It seems you are trying to decided whether he is date worthy before you have even met him. Go on the date then decide. You don't really have enough to go one yet.

And anyway, it's always best if the first one is a nut. Tells you straight up whether you've got the stomach for internet dating! Weeds out the woozies from the rest of us who get into it like it's a hobby!

That's a guy attitude.

Here is a girl attitude: if he is wierding you out before you even meet him - absolutely hopeless. Why bother wasting time going on the date?

So in the middle of the IM he starts asking why I'm not fat and ugly.....

Uhh.....because I'm not?

Then he asked if I've never had a boyfriend before or been engaged (I'm divorced....so yeah I have)

I tell him this, and he asked when I was going to tell him I was divorced. I said whenever he asked me. So then he asks me "why" I'm divorced.

My divorce was Lifetime Movie Network meets Jerry Springer....dude has his penis on the internet, was doing other men, had bank accounts with other women, was stealing people's credit (including mine....*******) and turned out to be an abusive freakish psycho. That's not really what I want to explain over IM. I told him I had no problems discussing it in person, but it wasn't a conversation over IM. And he promptly logged off.

Then I get a text that says he doesn't know if he wants to do dinner b/c he doesn't like it when someone hides something or doesn't tell him something.

HELLO.....I don't know you wack job. Why would I tell you about my divorce????

So perhaps I need to run away.

Spidey Sense says run away.

Is it rude of me to cancel tomorrow? I mean, the more I listen to my gut, the more it says DEF not. And there's a different guy (POW #2) Who seems significantly less creepy that I much rather go out with.
