DustySaltus Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Hypothetical scenario. You have $40 and you need to take a girl out for something to eat and some sort of evening activity (not that lol). What's your game plan?
Stung Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 If the weather's nice, you could take her somewhere beautiful outdoors for a picnic...bring a bag or basket of cold cuts or fried chicken (not a bucket from KFC), fruit, cheese, a baguette, some wine if that won't break the bank, or mineral water. As for evening activities, look for cafes that have live music, preferably jazz or something lo-fi, or salsa if she's into dancing; if she's literary, look for bookstores where there is a poetry reading or 'meet the author' event, or something similar. Many cities have one night a month where art galleries and museum entrances are all free. If you're near a beach, the proverbial 'walk along the beach' is a little cheesy but still hard to beat. If she's playful, maybe there's someplace nearby where you can take her to play pinball, or ride the bumper cars. Alternatively 2nd-run moviehouses are coming back into vogue in my area, and the good ones are not only cheaper but play a lot of fantastic old cult films that won't play in regular theaters.
CarrieT Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Ask her out on nights when museums are open late and/or have free days. Every museum in the country has free days and nights and makes for a great place to walk and talk. Then, for dinner, search Chowhound.com, Mouthfulsfood.com, or eGullet.com for suggestions on local eateries that are tasty and inexpensive (usually ethnic like Chinese works). Some of my best dates have cost less than $30!
New Again Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Hypothetical scenario. You have $40 and you need to take a girl out for something to eat and some sort of evening activity (not that lol). What's your game plan? As girl, at this exact moment, if a guy said "Hey I have $40 to spend, let's go out tonight" I would want to go to Taco Bell for dinner and then walk around and take photos OR See a movie (it's actually raining here tonight) and share a desert afterward OR Get a bottle of wine and some cheeses and some French bread, garlic and brie (yummiest snack ever) and just chill OR Hit up a museum like Carrie suggested (which, usually with a membership which are pretty cheap, you can go to openings and private tours in the evening, bring a +1, and they have food and wine for free) OR pizza and bowling or paintball or laser tag (corny but so fun!) or get our palms read and I could probably go on and on, although I am having a harder time thinking of activities (I like outdoor ones) since it's getting colder and dark early.
laRubiaBonita Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 you could do dinner and a movie.... go get groceries together and hit up that red box movie rental thing at the store.... it's what- $1 rentals? make dinner and watch the movie
gtrguy Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Are we talking in NYC? If so, good luck!!! Best bet would be to grab a few beers at a casual sports bar if you want to go the drinks route. You could do coffee or ice cream date.. Walk around Central Park.. Natural History Museum? If it was me and I was that low on cash, I would do the few beers or coffee/ice cream route for a 1st date.
