Why are cheesy pick-up lines looked down upon?

I actually heard some of them, and I have to say some of them even I laughed at?

But if a woman doesn't find them funny, and just "Gaffaws" at them.....does this mean she lacks a sense of humor of some sort?

I sometimes think, if used properly or perhaps if you know the girl somewhat....or perhaps it's a timing thing, cheesy lines probably COULD be seen as "cute" or "Funny"

Come on ladies, don't tell me they can't make you smile a LITTLE, right? Cheesy pick-up lines can't be 100% all that bad?

Depends on what it is. If it's truly funny or cure he'll get a smile, but if it's tasteless or stupid he'll get the evil eye and I'll walk.

Yeah....if it's like vulgar involving some sick sex joke I can see it....one time there was this woman named "Summer" and I don't use cheesy lines much, and said, "Is it hot in here, or is it just Summer?" LOL

Dunno, it's innocent enough...but not all that bad. It WORKS because it's mutually exclusive (involving just her name).

Because there are cheesy!

The most offensive part of using pick up lines is that some guys are so *delusional* that they actually think they're clever, while the level of cleverness in pick up lines is 3th grade at best.

If i was a woman and anybody used pick up lines on me i'd break their face.

It is possible to have a good goofy opening but you bet your ass it won't come from the assortment of pick up lines that everybody knows. (I have a few that are more inventions, but not putting them out in the world for stealing :p)

Well, eitehr way, a line is a line...wether you made up your own or not. LOL

SOmetimes, I wonder if cheesy pick up lines aer so bad...that NOW they are "in"....because since you attempted to use a bad line....the woman would be amused that you were brave enough to use it.

A "coupe de dat" (sp??)

It's because pick-up lines are fake and cheesy. Girls don't like it when guys use techniques when attempting to pick them up at the bar. A pick-up line is a technique.

My opinion on cheesy pickup lines... They work if:

1. They are creative and original, and not the overused ones.

2. They are in good taste, and clearly CHEESY

3. The guy actually doesn't seem serious, and has a fun delivery

If the following criteria is met and she scoffs at the pickup line, her sense of humor sucks and she isn't worth it.

It's because women want the best. If two equally good looking guys approach a woman, she's going to take a better off, whomever's pickup line she likes better..

Women get hit on a lot, so they can be picky, and have various reasons for dismissing guys if they think they can do better. This is one of the reasons. Other reasons are status, height, looks. clothes, social skills, etc...

When a girl sees a guy using pick-up lines on her, she sees a guy who's compensating for a short fall elsewhere in his life. It's as though the guy himself is not good enough for her unless he uses some contrived phrase to hook her.

This list is accurate I think. The problem with most guys who use cheesy pick up lines is that they are either in bad taste and/or the guy is taking himself way too seriously when he delivers the lines.

Another good pickup line tactic for those who want to use them:

Talk about the fact that you used a pickup line almost immediately after you use one. It's hilarious and it works.

example:

Guy: "It's my birthday can I have a birthday kiss?"

Girl: "Is it really your birthday?"

Guy: "No... not at all, but can I have a kiss anyway?"

Girl: "Haha... I don't know about that"

Guy: "I can't believe that pickup line didn't work... I fail"

Girl: "Haha... what's your name?"

That's how it works.

I want to hear some genuine words come out of a guy's mouth not some cheesy pick up line.

I do laugh at some, but I can always go to a comedy show for that. If a guy is trying to get to know me, that is not the way.

It's not what you say. It's how you say it.

Men who memorize and employ "cheesy" pick up lines often sound as though they are hoping the lines themselves will be a magic bullet.

You stand a better chance of just saying something naturally funny that won't make her roll her eyes. If you can't think of something funny, say anything - it's better than nothing.

There's nothing wrong with having rehearsed stories, jokes, or methods of seduction, but you should know what they are and how to deploy them if you want to keep her interested.

Sam - I agree... I actually never use pickup lines... EVER, but I think they can be funny and can work. I think something funny that makes a girl smile is the best way to start off a conversation. I like to see if I can identify something that they are wearing, have interest in, are holding, watching, etc... and acknowledge it. It has to be something she'd never think I'd notice or something I shouldn't know about. This actually requires a little research.

example: "Nice touch with the Steve Madden shoes..."

If you are right, then she will laugh and say "how the hell did you know that?" If you are wrong just laugh at yourself and play it off. It's better to pick something you absolutely know you are right about though.

Clep - BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

exactly... when a guy tries some well-rehearsed "line" on me I find it practically insulting... like he's just going around using it on whatever girl hoping one of us will be dumb enough to fall for it. But if he is "authentic" and charming in his delivery, he'll at least get a laugh and I might even want to talk to him a bit longer... but it's going to take more than a "line" to keep me interested...
