Is this the end?

I worked at a trendy, popular and unique restaurant in NYC but was fired in October for dubious reasons. Yesterday, co-workers contacted me to join in a strike against the restaurant for one month back pay. This is the second time the staff went a month with no pay.

All the chefs have quit. Some servers are leaving. Some of the production staff is leaving. Chefs have told me that vendors and rent on the place is owed. Office operations are closed. We all have an inkling of the shady nature of the misallocated money---casinos!

My question is this: does anyone know would a place that has a great product, booming business and a cult-like following go under if it was bankrupt like this? I guess it needs investors, right? People to front money? Obviously, if the place is not open and no one will work there, it won't make money. But assuming it did kick-start itself one more time, aren't these signs all just one giant death-knell?

It is one giant death nell. I think before I left I'd at least contact the highest person you could get ahold of and just ask, What the hell is going on? Are you going under or do you have someone taking over or what? Someone might buy the place. But sounds like as many restaurants, they are not making money despite being popular.

Google the place under the Secretary of State website and see who the owner is or if there's multiple ones or what and maybe it will give you an idea if it's owned independently or by a corporation. If it's a corporation of group of partners, look each of those up for business news on google and see what is going on that way. You might find out something useful.
