PhillyDude
Even though I know we were laid off due to delayed funding this fiscal year, I constantly keep saying these things to myself 1. Why didn't I major in another field that would kee me employed? 2. If I had a special skill I would never be laid off 3. Only people who have unique talents stay employed 4.What can do better to make sure I'm never laid off again in life? I guess I keep saying things because I know people who never ever been laid off like my mother example and I feel I need to develop new skills and become a better professional t stay working. But I know it's because of funding and the fact that it's no new money to pay anyone right now. So since I know all of that why do beating myself up? Is it because I been laid off 5 times since 2005? Has anyone ever took a layoff personal?
Lucky_One
I would guess that, yes, you are taking this personally because of 5 layoffs in 6 years. But I think you are thinking the right way - build up some new skills while you are off work. Learn webpage developing, take an Excel class, learn Spanish, ask a good girl friend to look at your appearance critically to make sure that you look presentable and fairly current, take a business management class at community college, learn how to write grants. Something will change - don't give up hope.
