Any fashion boutique owners?

Recommended Posts

One day, I would love to open my own fashion/clothing boutique. I have an innate need to express myself visually though clothes, bags, or anything on my body, including shoppiong bags ( I wil not carry a red shopping bad, for instance, as I do not feel myself carrying colours I do not like).

I would like to own the shop, and source clothes from different brands, perhaps a mix of Aussie brands ( I am in Aus), in addition to clothes I design and have made for my cheeply my tailors in vietnam or china, or some place similar.

HERE is the niche I want to target: Neutrals. the thing is, black, greys, whits, and silver ALREADY have SOOOOOO many designs, fabrics, cuts, and fits. There are ENDLESS ways these colours can be made into fashion or accessories.

I am a neutral persnon; I cannot wear colour, and only wear silver, greys, and blacks, although I do not mind whits bits/details on things.

And I was thinking of how cool it could be, if a shop specialised in sourcing the best neutral options from various brands.

Does ANY ONE HERE tend to mostly like wearing black or neutral shades, and would you particularly LIKE a shop, that have a wide range of designs, but only in neutrals?

I know a lot of women who tend to only wear black. And wouldn't it be good to have a shop FULL of black clothing, but in a GREAT range of styles?

What do YOU think of my idea, do you think there is market for this out there? Or do you think this isjust one of those ideas that myself and a few other people would love the idea of.

I would love to own a clothing boutique, however, I would not be able to do it unless I really felt for all of the clothes I sourced; and stocking a wide range of colours is not true to myself, as far as my asthetic goes.

OH - I love deep purple. lol! I also love pink. But I only wear those two colours in small doses, such as purple earings, and a pink hair band or jewelery box.

I am doing a food science and nutrition degree, I start it next year, so this boutique thing is another area I am passionate about and obviously life would b more interesting if I could explore two career paths within my life time.

I am not having children so I think that it is perhaps realistic to have more career options, as I will have more financial opportunity without kids.

And yes - if I get successful and have a lot of cash I would LOVE to adopt or foster - if I have enough to give back I love kids. But I am averse to having them biologically.

SO.. Does no kids = easier time cultivating my career, and even having the option of two main careers?

I would also like to add, if there ARE any of you on LS who DO have experience with running their own small clothing store, I would really lovfe to hear about how yous et the place up, and what all the costs were, and how you went about sourcing the products ( did you search online for brands and then get their numbers and simply contact them this way, or is there a better way to find the contacts of the brands you want to stock)

I would shop at a boutique like that for sure.

Especially if you could keep the prices reasonable- I was in Australia earlier this month and its expensive!

Why are you doing that particular degree if you have no plans to use it?

I do plan on usimg my food science and nutrition degree; I just want to explore more than ONE type of job/career in my life. I do not want kids, so I think I will have the means to do so. I cannot see any one else openining a store of just black clothes so hopefully my ideal will still be unique.

Black is so popular among many women, yet there are endless kinds of black fashion. You could easily fill a whole shop with blxk tops, without even having black pants or jeans, for instance, and the tops would all ve very different lol.

I can think of so many fantastic black tops I could put together, that would honestly entrance people. I drool just thinking about them.....

And that is without consideing the jackets and accessories. Would a business degree help? Perhaps a short business course even?

I would ALSO source silver, clear diamond, and some dark/deap purple accesories. Silver and black are so beautiful to me, wearing lots of black and having some lovely silver jewelery.

This would be a dream scenerio to me, and I guess it is cool that I know what my desires are in terms of what I would LOVE to do for a living, because at 23, I have time to make it happen.

And I like the idea of having my food science degree and being able to have different career paths.

No one on here either has the experience I need advice from, or they find me to annoying to bother with lol.

I am going to seek out small boutiques that I admire and ask their owners if they would not mind sitting down for 5 minutes to explain things to me; I will try to flatter them, by saying that I would love to have my own one some day, and would really appreciate talking about how they run the business, seeing as I admire it and would learn a lot form their knowledge.
