I defexted...and got escorted out of my work this afternoon

Recommended Posts

Lol. I meant DEFECTED.

I interviewed for another job I was recruited for last month, and yesterday I got a contract and accepted it. I am switching jobs again!

I was sort of happy in my latest job, but so much was missing, and the politics were ridiculous at times.

It's a bit more money, but more paid vacation, and the atmosphere of the company seems much more laid back.

I will be going back to what I know best- which is lingerie and bras

- which I know like the back of my hand, and frankly, what I am good at. I'll be the DM for 5 stores- and I'll be overseeing visuals and well as management. I should have 2 more stores within the next 6 months.

There is also opportunity for growth to a regional position in the next couple of years. They are a young and growing company.

I went to work this morning and finished my day, then told my boss this afternoon. I gave them 2 weeks notice, but I knew they'd escort me out as soon as I gave notice. I cleared out my things and they walked me out, and that was it!

I am pretty excited actually. I'll have less stores to oversee for a little more money- and the bonus package is really great.

I can't believe I went from rock bottom after losing my store a couple years ago to being actively recruited and making such a decent salary.

It was a little humiliating to have security escort me out of the building this aft- but I was well aware it would happen. I called my lawyer this afternoon and he called me back and said they will probably have to give me my 2 weeks salary since I gave proper notice and they fired me on the spot. He's calling me back tomorrow.

On to new things yet again!

'Grats on your new job, D!! It sounds like it's right down your alley. :bunny:

As for being escorted out, what a terrible feeling. Talk about making someone feel like a criminal but I guess with retail sales, it's very competitive and secrets are kept close to the chest.

And yes, they should be paying you out for the last two weeks.

Your ex-employer is required under the Employment Standards Act of your province, to send you your final cheque within a specific timeframe. Can't remember if this would include the two weeks or not.

Congrats on your new position, D-Lish. You must be very excited! I, too, am leaving my job. I am resigning my Commission as an Army officer, in June. Two Wars are enough. But I'm really scared about it. I've a new job as a teacher (history) but the thought of lecturing a bunch of HS kids has me stressing.

Thanks everyone,

And honestly- it was an awkward exit. It was like taking a walk of shame, lol.

But I am really happy- a little more money, a better benefit package, and a bonus package. If I can push sales (which I know I can), I will benefit from the change.

I will get the details from my lawyer tomorrow. He's more family law (he did my divorce), so he wanted his assistant to do some research after me sending hin my initial contract. I don't care really, I am excited to make the change.

You guys don't even know how excited I feel! I feel like I have nailed it down, and I have found a perfect fit.

OMG that is exactly how I read it too at first glance. I was thinking "that must have been one major dump for them to want to escort her out." Silly me. But I'm happy for you D-Lish! That's awesome news. I love hearing stuff like this. Kick butt in your new position.

That's funny- that everyone thinks I defecated at work ...lol.

I must admit- I met some friends for pints after getting escorted out. I don't think my spelling was too "on". I was cracked by the time I posted.

I have a little time off before starting anew- I'm sure I'll defecate between now and then:eek: I don't know if I'll start a thread about it- but who knows. It's not like I am shy, I'd probably tell you guys:lmao:

I would think it violates some employer code of conduct for a company to fire someone in reply to them giving 2 weeks notice:confused: If your work and behavior was at least acceptable up until your last day, then what good will firing you do, they will still have to give you your last paycheck which I think would be required. Little over the top you having to be escorted as well, kind of insulting I would think, you could bring that up to the lawyer too maybe?

Well, it's in my contract, I get my last two weeks pay, but that is all.

That's okay. It works out for me.

This isn't unusual, in highly competitive industries and reliant on how far up the food chain your position resides. No lawyer, at least in Canada, will bother with this.

But if you think about it, it's kind of silly. Who in their right minds, besides people you're firing, won't have already removed anything worth removing, previous to handing in their notice? It's not as if D is going to get violent and smash her computer or anything...

Edit - hold it. D had to work with that grumpy woman for so long. Maybe they were worried she would take this woman out! And who would blame her!

Congrats on the new job, I thought Defexted was to quit via text message, as in

I was too intimidated to tell my boss face to face that I was defecting, so I had a few beers at lunch and then defexted him, which explains why security was waiting for me at the door when I got back from lunch.

Yes, I am happy, and thanks. :)

I will have a lot more freedom with hiring and firing and decision making.

Congrats and enjoy the time off!

My room is clean, and I've been at the dog park a lot! I also had two dates in the last few days and I met a rather cute guy at this new dog park I found!

You should have defexted all over her !:lmao:

Well, the last time I spent an overnight with her in a hotel room, she let a couple toots go in her sleep- so I owe her one;) Boy there was a part of me that wanted to tell her that on my way out- "BY THE WAY, YOU FART IN YOUR SLEEP!!":cool:

That's another good thing- all of my stores are within driving distance to start with. My farthest drive is about an hour and a bit. So no more overnight travelling, and no air travel for now! Best of all, no partner;)

  • 2 weeks later...

So happy for you D. I to am waiting to hear about a similar position.sort of a dream job in my industry.Pins and needles to say the least. I hope that I'm blessed with similar godd fortune.

Oh, I know that here where I live we have to have the final check ready when someone is let go.I remember a similar situation where my company had to pay out the two weeks even though they asked that person to not bother finishing.

Good luck!!:D
