Visible pubic bone

Recommended Posts

I am a teenage girl who feels very confused and lonely when i think about my visible pubic bone.

I'm writing this because i saw an old thread that described a similar situation, which made me feel better as it was the first time i had ever heard someone talk about it. This protruding bone stops me from wearing tight jeans or skirts (sometimes even track pants), which i would like to try wearing without feeling like a weirdo. I can safely say this is my biggest insecurity.

For those that can't imagine what this looks like, it's basically a bulge where the top of the vagina is. It is especially visible when you bend your body backwards, pushing it out, almost seems like i was meant to be born a boy.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about please reply to this, because i am desperate to know if theres anyone else out there with the same struggle. Ive just been feeling so alienated for so long, im desperate.

What are you scared that your pubic bone could become? In reality everybody has a pubic bone, and the bone protrudes to different amounts.

Would you consider seeing your physician about it? There are a few medical things that should be checked out, but most likely you are just thin. Looking weird is in the eye of the beholder ;) Are you going to let other people's judgments run how you live your life, or the fashion advice of certain women run how you live your life?

Go check your spine and pelvic alignment, it could come from orthopedic issues.

What's your BMI? If it is normal and still protruding, maybe you can consider plastic surgery.

Talk to a doctor, and if its not a health issue learn to accept and love yourself the way you are.

Our social structure likes to worship ordinary physical appearances but if you love yourself, people will only admire you despite any atypical physical traits you have. I know this sounds like one of those "easy for you to say" things but I can't tell you how many times I fell for women that had something out of the ordinary about them physically because they were such amazing people.

You never know, there might be some benefit in terms of the way your nerves or muscles are arranged so that you can enjoy physical contact in a unique way.

Just want to emphasize, get it checked by a doctor, give you body time to finish growing and love who you are. Get some help from a counselor if you need help there.

I second the idea of having your pelvic alignment looked at. Find a physio who does manipulation work and get them to look at it.

(Reminds me of a radio announcer who was complaining that he has to pull his swimmers right up high at the back to cover his bum crack. All these physios called the radio and told him he had a hip issue and needed to be adjusted)

You know, this factoid is really strange, but it's true. I remember reading and seeing photos of advertising back in the 80s and 90s where women were intentionally made to look like they have a bulge, and it was all part of subliminal advertising. It was considered sexy. They actually put things in there to make it look that way, so I think it at least used to be considered sexy, rather than embarrassing.

That said, if you're self-conscious about it, maybe it will be minimized if you put on a little weight, and meanwhile, just don't wear anything real tight.

My BMI is 20. I am 158 cm (5ft 2 in) and 50 kgs (110 lb). To be honest, I have considered surgery but I would also really like to have kids one day, and I'm not sure if the surgery will affect that.

So you should in general not get surgery to remove your pubic bone except in rare circumstances. You are on the small side. I would go to your physician to talk about medical reasons for a protruding pubic bone, and if there are none, you can take a breath of relief that it's just cosmetic. Do not pick pelvic surgery at your young age unless you are absolutely forced, it's only rarely necessary.

After more research, I think I have mons pubis. I'm 16 so I probably can't get liposuction or coldsculpting without my parent's permission. I think I'm just gonna save up and get it done when I'm 18.

Why are you absolutely set on having surgery rather than speaking with your doctor about it?

I'd bet you'd find plenty of men out there very happy with your body's appearance, pubic bone included. Get a little more life experience before you make any decisions....

You make it sound like a disease, but everyone has a mons pubis.

Anyway... bone is hard and mons is soft.

Give it time, you're still growing. Most likely, everything will look just fine when you've added both fat and muscle to the surrounding areas of your body.

Oh Dear ,

Don't worry about it , You are still growing and underweight .

many bones could be visible in your body if you don't have fat around them , it is a very healthy sign .

Hey,

I second what others have said. I used to have weird feelings about different areas of my body, for various reasons, but I can tell you - working as a medic, you really do see ALL the different ways in which the human body can look.

I'm not a super experienced doctor yet, so I can't comment on whether what you have is a 'problem' that requires treatment but I CAN say that: in terms of your feelings about it, you really have nothing to feel bad about at all. It might be easier said than done, but honestly, sometimes I wish all insecure teenage girls (including myself at that age!) can somehow spend time getting some of the experience I have working with others, in a position where people tell and show you their most personal and intimate problems. It gives you a bigger perspective than you could have ever imagined.

So I hope you can take it from someone who has at times felt like you have about certain body regions, and now don't...at all: it really isn't something to be insecure about.

And as someone else has said, it's in the eye of the beholder.

I remember one guy I was VERY into after getting to know him: when I first met him, admittedly I was a bit more shallow back then and noticed his wonky teeth and varus deformity of his knees (bow-legged). After getting to know him and developing feelings for him, none of these things mattered...AT. ALL. Like in my eyes, he was the most handsome thing ever, inside and out.

Cus really, these things don't matter, and if they did, you probably wouldn't want to know that person anyway, because it shows their acceptance of you is dependent on a ridiculous, shallow reason that is beyond your control. They would be people not worth having in your life, prominent pubic bone or not.

What does your mother say about this. I see you are a teenager, how old are you?

Ok, your weight is normal, so it's not being too skinny causing the bone to be more visible like I initially thought. I'd second getting a consultation for your spinal/pelvic alignment. Your general doctor might do it and refer you to a specialist if need be. Just ask during your physical.

Surgery will NOT affect your ability to carry pregnancies. But bone reduction is a painful procedure, so you should think carefully is it worth it.

Everybody has mons pubis. Everyone has a little layer of fat there making it pouchy. It's nothing at all to worry about. No man is ever going to even notice that. Just don't wear super tight clothes down there, which you shouldn't anyway. We all have to beware of camel toe! You're getting upset over this as if you have body dysmorphia. I have to imagine at your age you have already had your first gynecologic visit. If the doctor didn't see anything unusual, then you are perfectly normal. Doesn't mean you and all your friends are identical or should want to be.

When i was about 12 i wore leggings and a t-shirt that stopped around my hip. She told me to hide what was down there. That was the first time i noticed it and that i was in that way different from everyone else except my sister and mum. I guess my mum struggled with it herself ;( oh im 16 btw

Why can't you wear a pair of jeans that is one size bigger, then you'll be able to hide it and not worry about it being too tight?
